Deb, I am sorry to hear of your difficulties. I have done fine with food and protein intake. What I did was to only try one new food so I could tell if I was going to have a problem. The thing I notice most is that I can not handle as much spice and seasoning. I have purposely stayed with some bland flavors and then added crunch. My struggle is the incision became infected and I now am going to a wound center twice weekly trying to heal it from the inside out.
I think it would be beneficial to follow up with your surgeon. You may have a stricture and if that is it, it will only continue to frustrate you. I understand a stricture can be easily taken care of. Good luck and best wishes. Let us know how you are doing. Blessings, Jackie
Topic: 9 weeks out- struggling, help
Hello, I had my GBS on May 12th and I have really been struggling. I have had a really tough time with solids, still just having soup and Isopure protein drinks...yogurt and I can tolerate Bretton minis crackers which i dip in Tzaki or peanutbutter.
Got really sick from eggs, dry toast, cold cuts, soggy cereal tuna and egg salad, and some other things I cant think of. I am so afraid to try anything new now. What is everyone else eating and tolerating- although I know its so different for everyone.
I called my doctor this week after a particularly bad episode, horrible chest pain, and couldnt catch my breathe 3 hours after eating 2 bites of scrambled egg and 2 bites of toast. He wanted me to go to the ER but I threw up shortly after they called so I didnt go. Could I have a stricture? I dont know what to try next or what to do. I have lost 55 pounds including post op but I am struggling to get in 500 cals a day, cant tolerate any protein shakes, only Isopure clear, and feeling really depressed about having the surgery. Overall I feel pretty good and can't believe I have the energy to get through each day based on what i am getting down. Is this normal at 9 weeks out- am I just taking longer to heal? What should I try to eat next? I am so afraid to eat meat and have heard all the horrors about pasta, rice, bread, chicken.
I cant believe all the people who are so happy they had it and seem to be eating so many things. Is something wrong with me? Anyone have any of these experiences or any advice I could really use it.
Thanks all!

WTG Lauren!!!!! Yes, I am quickly beginning to agree with the inches over scale theory as the #'s aren't coming off quite as quickly as I'd expected, sometimes. I have good weeks and bad weeks. But once I take measurements I see there are things going on "behind the scenes".
Nearing my 2-month surgiversary here are my stats:

Topic: RE: May 5th wls people. How is your weight loss going? :type:
Hi Vicki,
I have lost 43 lbs. somedays it is more than that. At one point it was 45 lbs lost and then it back to only 40 lb lost and now it is 43 lbs again. It seems it should be more lost than that because i still can not keep many things down sometimes when i eat. Often times the first bite it feels it is not going all the way down my thoat. Then by the second or third bite i start to feel like i am going to be sick and often am. I am chewing well and taking my time. I have lost interest now for the most part. The real kick in the butt is that sugar does not make me sick at all. That was one of the main reasons for the surgery, because i love sweets. Things are slow for now, time will tell. But thanks for asking, Debra

My lap RNY was May 5. I have lost 45#!! It's so awesome - big change of lifestyle. I am starting to be able to eat a bigger variety of foods which is nice. Food actually tastes good again -finally! Isn't it nice to get full so fast?

Hi Connie,
I have been and heard we all go thru platues. I heard it is better to go with measurements instead of the darn scale. Your doing great. Im about 6 weeks out and actually went two weeks before I lost anything. Lost 47 as of now. Shrinking more each days. Hang in there

You're definitely not alone. I had surgery May 8th and I think I'm about 45 lbs down. I have gone from a BMI of 41 to about 31, so I'm not complaining.
Topic: RE: May 19 2008 Surgery...
Hi John,
I had my lap band surgery on May 19th as well. I am down 23 lbs and 5 inches between my waist, hips, and abdomen. I really don't feel any different than I did before my surgery. I am hungry most of the time. I am not sure if it is all in my head or what.
I am going in tomorrow to see my doctor and hopefully get my first fill. I don't have and appointment, just walking in. I have no restrictions on how much I can eat. Luckily I havent gained any weight, but I havent lost any weight in 4 weeks utill yesterday, I lost 1 pound. I go to the gym two days a week (part of my physical therapy) and walk 3 other days of the week. I have two small kids (4 & 7) and my husband is in the military, so our life can be pretty hectic.
I wish you and everyone else the best of luck!
