Topic: RE: May 13th surgery cancelled!
Sorry to hear your surgery was postponed. I am sure postponed is the word not cancelled. I too have heart conditions, cardiopathy and had a very low ejection fraction of 16! 5 years ago. I have a wonderful cardio doctor and the surgery was his recommendation. As a matter of fact, I have two top cardio doctors recommeding the surgery because it will be "good" for my heart. The heart conditon caused other conditions such has high chlos, diabetes, sleep apena and others. This was due to weight gain and the lack of exhaustion resulting in the lack of exercise. I am already told the day after surgery I can stop taking 3 of my meds. I take a lot of medications. I have been considering this surgery for 3 years and finally decided it is a must for my heart and the life style I want to resume. I do not have a date yet but my surgeon said mid July, just waiting on the nutritional counseling needed for pre certification. Just pray and be thankfuld they found your condition pre op not post op. You can prepare your body now and the chances of success will be much greater.

Dear Brenda, I'm sure you are crushed with disappointment....but seriously, thank God your doctor was so thorough. It is a big surgery ( I am awaiting a revision), and you need to be in as good a condition as possible before, with your doctor knowing beforehand what to look for and what to expect afterwards. I feel for you, I truly do. Keep your spirits up and get well soon. Kristin

Topic: RE: WHO'S ON THE LIQUID DIET?
Hi, I am not on the liquid diet yet so I don't have any answers for you. But I am going to pre-op on Thursday 4/24 so I will probably be on liquids after that with you. I feel for you though I am not looking forward to a liquid diet with a big appitite. Have you been given your surgery date yet? I am hoping mine won't be to long after pre-op. Good Luck. Deidre

Hi y'all; I need to vent a little to my cyber support group. I had a rough day yesterday. I had a cardio ultrasound and hold and behold I have a problem......mayocardiopathie and something. I was in such a daze that I lost the last bit of the name. Anyways, it was supposed to be routine as a shadow was noticed while I was having a chest x-ray following lingering asthma from the pneumonia last October. I have no symptoms to indicate a heart problem. No blockage and the blood work is excellent. My gp just wanted to make sure given the surgery coming up and that the xray is not a good indicator for heart problems. I was so very upset and feeling so drained. I was so ready for this surgery. I am happy that the problem was noticed and caught in time. I realize that it is treatable and that it isn't cancer but I am afraid. I am young and was not prepared for this. No heart condition in the family and I wanted to get my weight in check before anything major happened. I guess I waited too long. Eversince I am menapausal and had my uterus and ovaries removed two years ago, I have been having issue with heart palpitations. Everyone thought it was a lack of hormones. I guess everyone was wrong.... Thanks for allowing me to vent. There isn't any support groups for me to go to in my neck of the woods and I needed to find myself amoungst friends who would understand. brenda b

Topic: Has anybody used Isospure liquid protein drinks like Grape Frost or Orange?
I know this is a dumb question, but will be having surgery May 5, 2008, and want to know how the Isopure liquid drinks taste!!!!! They have about 40 grams of protein, and 160 calories, no sugar, etc. I need something besides the shakes especiallly during the first 7-10 days when I can't have the shakes to get the protein in. I hate nasty stuff. I like my normal protein shake, but need something not milk based for the first week or so. Any ideas? Thanks so much, and I appreciate everyone's response.

Topic: RE: New and scared/May 5 is the date!!!!
Wow, Tina....I know exactly what you mean. I am 49 will be 50 in September of this year. I am scared, also. My insurance covers both lap band and rny, but in my case I weigh an awful lot, 417 pounds right now. Was 463 in April 2007, but had to lose some in order to be safe for surgery. The lap band statistics will not allow me to lose the weight I need to (can lose about 85% of the needed weight with gastric bypass). Whichever you decide, they are both life changing issues and you really need to be prepared for them. Look at me talking.....I am very scared on the inside, but am praying for the Lord to give me peace and bring me safely through. I have not had surgery either, and really don't know how it will be. I have one son, who lives in Alaska, and a granddaughter who lives here in Missouri who is the love of my life. She spends every other weekend with me, and I am so looking forward to being able to play tball with her or ride a bike, or just be able to walk without my cane. I have been overweight my entire life, and I will appreciate being thinner!!!! Whatever that number is, I will be thankful. You take care, Tina, and good luck. Your children do need their mother, and you need to be healthy. I have heard that the diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. sometimes go away completely when weight is lost. Good luck, and keep us posted on how you are doing. You are in my prayers.

Hi Vicki, nice to meet you. Good luck on your surgery, I will say a prayer for you. I will start my liquid diet on Monday, the 21st and I am not very excited about that part. I am 49 years old will be 50 in September, and it would be so nice to have some weight off to start that chapter of my life, right? I weigh about 417 pounds right now, was 463 a year ago in April 2007. Have been extremely overweight my whole life, and now my knees are very bad. Need knee surgery, but maybe that will improve if the weight comes off. I have one son who lives in Alaska, and am still single. Have a granddaughter who is the love of my life (she is watching me type this right now) and she is so supportive of her granny and tells me "It's okay, Granny Pam, I won't eat either". Bless her heart. I am so looking forward to being able to walk without my cane, and play T Ball with her, and ride a bike again. But, Vicki, whatever your goal is, I hope you reach it. Keep in touch, will you? This website is the best thing I have found and am so glad you responded. I don't feel so alone to know other folks are out there facing the same thing. Take care, and keep us posted on your surgery and how things are going. You are in my prayers.
