Topic: Got my date!
Hi to everyone! I've been a voyeur to this website for a very long time and I'm so excited to be joining the gang - finally! I will have the gastric bypass on May 6. I am getting very nervous. I have hurt my knee and I'm trying very hard to stay off of it so that it will not be an issue during my hospital stay. My doc wants me to lose about 10 lbs before the surgery to reduce the size of my liver and I am trying very hard to do the liquid protein twice daily and have a small meal - along with drinking buckets of water. however, the tons of water equal frequent trips to the bathroom which equals more time on my feet which means more knee pain - what's a girl to do?

Rita, I share your anxiety. I am 29 and mother of two under 4. The realization that this surgery is a life changing event for the entire family is setting in. I am not worried about death, odds are on our side. I just hope that all the hopes I have associated with this surgery come to fulfillment. I am more scared of not losing the weight and failing once again. Being tied to this bigger me scares me. All we can do is talk about it and maybe all the worries are for nothing. I am having surgery this Thursday. AHHHH! Good luck Rita!

Topic: RE: WHO'S ON THE LIQUID DIET?
Dear Vicki Thank you so much for the words of encouragement. Today is day 11. It is Monday and I have surgery this Friday. Reading your reply made me feel so much better. I also read your other replies and it looks like a lot of us will be going for surgery soon. With the great support from all of us, I am sure we will do well. And I really like the "keep the focus", I am going to try. I am having problems with the "hand to mouth" problem as well. I liked food for comfort, stress, happiness etc, etc,. Walking has sometimes helped. It is getting easier and you are right you are not as hungry as when we first started. I am trying to find a way of coping without the food. I quit smoking a little over two years ago and haven't started up because of the surgery but I am really afraid I might start after the surgery to replace my food addiction. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Good luck and God bless. Dianna

Hi Dianna, I am not on optifast, but I do know what that is. I'm on a product called Edge Advantage it is 20 grams of protein and 20 grams of carbs per serving and I drink it with 8ozs of skim milk 3 times a day. I can have sugar free jello and popsicles and herbal tea. NO caffeine products lots of broth and 8oz of 100% juice once a day. NO soda but alot of water. A few other things but that is the most of it for me. Oh and I wanted to tell you... I feel the same way about wanting to change my mind. This weekend I thought about it alot and contemplated changing my mind, but I just can't not after everything I have been through to get this far. I know I'm just scared. Good luck and Keep in touch

OH Karin So how long have you been on your Liquid diet now, My surgery is May 1 and I have been on a liquid protein diet for 12 days. Everyday I don't think I'm going to make it but some how I do. Just keep going one day....one minute at a time, I just drank plenty of water with my other stuff and slowly the time has gone by. Good luck!

You know Donna I'm so glad to read your post. You really made me feel better, I thank you for that. My surgery is in 5 days and this weekend I have (for the first time since starting this process) been thinking maybe I shouldn't do this. I know it's because I am scared of all the new and DIFFERENT things to come. I know I should be more excited, but it is my nature to be cautious. I'm trying hard to be brave, but I have been doing the same bad habits for so long I am scared of what is to come when I no longer can do the comfort eating. I've been giving that alot of thought since being on this liquid protein diet for the past 12 days and it's just a bit scary for me. So thanks for the positive out look. I needed it!!!

Thank you Joyce. Yes I also saw the 60 Minute show, that helped a little but, I just have the jitters about the whole "surgery" thing. I try to keep in touch afterwards.
