Vicki, you know the first little bit is tough....especially since you are already on a liquid diet. But Boy it is soooooooo worth it! I was so starting to second guess myself when I got to this month before my surgery. But I would so do it again. The doors it has opened for me......first and most importantly my kids. I am enjoying life with them so much. This weekend we went to the water park and what a differnce 120 plus pounds can make. I was rieding all hte slides and climbing through things (and can sit ina plastic chair with room to spare! I have met so many wonderful new friends both online and in person!!!I am going back to school to do something I always wanted to do....become a paramedic! And so much more!!! I love my new life and like I mentioned......I would do it all again. The bad habits.....well they remain. And I have been plateaued for awhile because of them, but then I mess up and start a dumping episode and then I know that my tool is working! The stress triggers will still be there....you just can't act on them like you once did. But I will say after a few months it all gets easier!! Donna

Topic: knee Injury Prior to surgery
After a fabulous "last supper" where I proudly did not go overboard, I was walking along when I cought a pothole and went SPLAT on the pavement. I really screwed up my knee. I have to have X-rays and a MRI Tue. and use a walker. I Also can't work before the surgery, my job loves that! I am terrifed to call my surgeon Will he cancel my 5/7 surgery? Oh Lord I hope not. Now I am in pain and worried. Advice Anyone?

Hey Kristy, First, hope you are feeling better after the ER episode. I guess every doc is different. I didn't need to be on a liquid diet (i.e. Optifast etc) before surgery, just two days of clear liquids after the bowel prep. I really hope they don't push back your surgery because of this. IMHO, it isn't really necessary, or we would ALL be required to do it. I'm sure a week would be fine. Talk directly to your doctor/surgeon iabout this if necessary. If indeed they do put off your surgery, think about going on your vacation and then having the surgery later. I know it's hard to wait...but maybe not stressing about the timing and all that would help. I'm sure if this was happening to me, I'd be ripping someone's throat out, so I'm not trying to minimize your situation. Just trying to make the best of it. Good Luck!! Kristin

Topic: Ahhhh...surgeon's nurse screwed up?!?!
I just got a call from my surgeon's nurse...tomorrow is supposed to be my pre-op appt. where I pick up my OptiFast and TrePuree for my liquid diet. I questioned her a month ago when scheduling this appt. as I was told earlier that I would be on the OptiFast liquid diet for 2-weeks and the date she was giving me was only one week before surgery...she said it's "upto" 2-weeks and I didnt' question cuz, heck, one week less of a liquid diet sounded okay to me! NOW it turns out she "screwed up" and I was in fact supposed to be on a liquid diet for 2-weeks. Argh!!! So now she says they might have to push back my surgery. And this surgery is already too close to a family vacaton I have tickets for on May 30th!! She says she will speak with someone in the a.m. and see if I'm still okay. I'm so pissed right now!!! This process has NOT gone smoothly for me and now this!!

My "Last Meal" is tonight so - I'm going to have a cheeses burger and maybe a slice of pizza with Crystal Light. I really miss my "Pepsi" drinks.

Topic: Was in ER last night with Dehydration...
and now I am supposed to have my fasting pre-op appt. tomorrow at 10:45AM!! Ugh. I am a bit leary about just now introducing foods since Sat. a.m. when I started feeling sick and then having to turn around and fast for that long. I've put a call into my surgeon's office to let them know this and whether or not I should keep my pre-op appt. tomorrow. I REALLY dont' want this to push back anything, especially my surgery date next week. Although, all this happening now makes my skeptical mind wander...should I be doing this?!?

Hey Cheryl, Yep, I'm all clear and ready to go. I go on Friday for the pre-op/anesthesiologist stuff and Monday I have to drink the Magnesium Citrate (yummy). Good Luck to you! I look forward to sharing this experience with you and the others in our May Surgery group.
