Hi I just posted this on the main board...I had my surgery 1 day after you. How are you doing with your diet? Do you eat pretty normally? Any good protein ideas?
Best,
Deb

Post Date: 9/5/08 11:02 pm Hello, I am approaching 4 months post op and still having alot of intolerances. I am stuck in rut and need new protein ideas. I am so scared to eat anything other than my safe foods becaise I almost always end up getting sick or at least really uncomfortable. Every day I eat the same stuff and I am starting to feel sluggish and bored. My protein is lacking too. I eat yogurt, protein icecream., soup, babybel and protein bars day in and day out- that's it. Can't do eggs, meat shellfish or protein shakes even to this day. It's maddening. I got sick from a couple bites of egg white just yesterday. I do ok with tilaphia but cant eat enough of it to make it worth the protein source. My suirgeon keeps telling me some people take longer than others and just give it time but I have had it. I cant even eat chili or shrimp ****tail. I didnt think it would be this difficult to resume a semi-normal life. Everyone else is eating such a variety and I am really getting nervous- especially because fruits and veggies make me sick too. I was sick for 4 hours off 1 piece of brocoli the other night. So I am down 80 pounds but really miserable with this situation. Any ideas so appreciated. Oh also I haven't really lost more than a pound or 2 in the past several weeks and I think its my diet- too many protein bars and "slider foods." HELP! |
I am the same way. Dr tells me the same thing. (((((((((( hugs )))))))))))
I dread the thought of trying to eat. I force the protein shakes down. I am having terrible dizzy spells (passed out and fell even - all banged up bad).
No ideas sorry. I am just suffering through it. A gentleman I met who is 5 years out says it does get better, but I am wondering W H E N ????? haha It beats being overweight I guess.
I am stalled at 192 but sooooo thrilled that I made it to ONDERLAND so quickly just not thrilled about how I got here. I am 47 pounds from goal (145 which will be skinny for me since I am 5' 8"). I will be thrilled to end up 150-160 range but totally happy at 170.
All I can advise you is to HANG IN THERE! My friend in Canada suffered terribly for about 3 months then one day she was just fine. Stick to softer well cooked veggies for now (like peas & green beans). I eat a lot of potato soup (homemade) and veggie beef soup (like campbells). I also eat a lot of yogurt and cottage cheese. I just hope I do not develop permanent health problems because of this. I am 54.5 years old. DR says all of my bloodwork is in the normal range. My BP which was always NORMAL is so much lower but still considered normal. I am not losing hair and my fingernails are growing like crazy so I must be OK with protein intake?
I have experienced "dumping" several times. Boy is that HORRIBLE!!!! But ate some no sugar added ice cream (butter pecan & cashew) with no ill effects whatsoever (GO FIGURE). I do not miss food or even desire it.
I have not tried any of the fancy protein bars etc. I am able to eat oatmeal and cheerios now.
Best wishes to you Keep in touch!

Hello i had my surgery the same day as you I am down 88 pounds as of today. I have been lucky and only dumped a few times due to not chewing up food enough. I have not had any other problems. been at a stall for the last 2 weeks but it is starting to move again. Only this i have seen is there are some days where i can eat like 3 oz of tuna and other day i am lucky to get 1/2 of that in at one meal. i just find it funny how it changes all the time. I wish you all the best of luck and keep up the great work you are all doing. one day i will change my tracker when i find the dammmm code lol or make a new one lol.
Hi there! Congrats on your weight loss (you are doing better than me). At least you are able to eat tuna. I have a really hard time. I did pretty good with some chicken I made myself. My pouch is just a PIA I guess? lol This dizziness has me worried and really on the bench. I hadn't gotten any walking in for a wee****il today and it wore me out. And I also haven't lost any weight in over a week. In fact I was up a couple pounds (YIKES)! But I am pleased with the results so far and just have to concentrate on getting back into the game. I wish you continued success and we will have to do a "surgerversary comparison & update" now and then
My surgery was May 5, 2008 and I have lost 90 lbs. so far....however...it's been really tough. Everything makes me vomit. I live on ice pops and soups! Getting boring!!! I'm having a procedure next week thats supposed to show how and where the food is going....anyone else have it like this? My doctor doesn't seem concerned???
