I have stopped losing after only 6 weeks post op! HELP!
I had surgery on May 8 and I have lost 41 pounds - but have lost nothing in 14 days! What is going on? I haven't been doing alot of exercise because of my knee pain, but I"m just sitting around on the sofa all day either! I am concentrating on protein and staying hydrated and I take my vitamins and calcium regularly. I know I'm consuming less than 800 calories per day - with a BMI of 54.0 I should be losing at least 4 pounds per week. The scales even went up 3 pounds from the last time I weighed a week ago. I am really concerned about this!
Anyone else having this experience? Any advice?
Thanks
Connie
Maybe you're just on a stall. I sometimes don't lose anything one day, then the next the scales will show 2 pounds gone? Don't worry, I'm sure you will start back up losing. My surgery was on May 19th, I walk 3 miles a day , swim 2 hrs., and walk on the gazelle at least 30 mins. each night. I have lost 54lbs as of today. Hope this helps.
Hi Connie, just thought I'd jump in here, hope y'all don't mind. At 6 wks. you've not stopped losing, your body is just playing catch up. I lost 13lbs. the first week after surgery then not one ounce for the next 5 weeks! It was so frustrating but I just stuck with it and suddenly overnight I had a 5lb. loss, then I steadily lost 1-2lbs. a wee****il I reached my goal...maybe a few bumps in the road but they didn't last long. You've lost 41lbs. in just 6 weeks...that's incredible! Your body needs a little time to catch up to it. You could also be retaining water...even now at 17 months post op I can gain up to 3lbs of water retention. Make sure you're getting at least 64oz. of fluids daily....remember, it doesn't have to be plain water. Any non-carbonated, caffeine free beverage counts as fluuids. If you're already getting 64oz. then bump it up to 80oz if possible. Also do your best to get at least 60g protein, I know its hard at 6 wks. but it can be done. If you're getting 60g already, try to add another shake or supplement and top off around 70g. A tall glass of milk will do it...put a little sugar free chocolate syrup in it to make chocolate milk. Try to exercise the best you can, I understand about pain....I had to stop exercising for nearly 6 months because of back issues, but do the best you can because it will help to kick start your weight loss again. If nothing else, do some strength training with free weights or something similar that doesn't involve your knees. Sounds like you've got calories under control, at 6 weeks I was consuming around 400-500 calories, but follow your surgeon's and nut's guidelines, they're all different.
I wouldn't even worry about those 3 lbs....it is virtually impossible for you to gain weight at this point, its most likely water weight. Hang in there, follow your rules, and give it some time. The weight will start coming off again, I promise! Let me know if I can help any other way, feel free to PM if you need me!
Hey Connie I had surgery the day before you and I am going through the same exact thing. At the beginning of last week I weighed 289, all I needed to do was lose 2 more pounds and I would hit 50 lbs gone total. I thought no prob I'll lose that before the end of the week. Well its nearing the end of this week and not only have I not lost those 2 lbs BUT gained 2 more (I started my period, I think that may have something to do with it). I've stalled for the last week and a half. I stalled at 3 weeks out too but it didn't last long. I just keep telling myself my body has to catch up.
Hey Connie,
Yes you have hit the very typical stall at 6-7wk. post op. I surgery May 6th and experienced the same 1.5wk. stall you are now. Just keep doing what you know you are supposed to be doing and it WILL happen, guaranteed!!! Sounds like you are doing a very good job as it is, already lost 41#...WTG!!! Just don't get discouraged. Chin up!
Sounds like your doing good. I too have stop loosing for 3 weeks actually and then all of a sudden I started seeing the scale go down again. So yes we will experience slow times but they come back. Just keep doing things right and you'll see the weight come off again............extra weight
God Luck
Hey Connie...congrats on the 41 lbs... ... My BMI in January was 60 and I had surgery May 1st... I have lost 30 lbs since. Everyone looses differant and we all will have stalls and spirts and more stalls and more spirts...its part of the process. As frustrating as it is its all part of it. Our bodies aren't used to loosing anything. Its getting used to whats going on and it is going to start coming off again. I know my Dr. says slow and steady is way better for your body and skin. I have been working out an hour a day so I know my slow weight loss is due to me gaining muscle mass. I have lost over 5 inches on my waist and 2 inches off each thigh. Also sometimes the scale needs to play catch up with your shrinking body. Try taking measurments and pictures so you can visualize your body changing... look at my pictures, I have the night before surgery and 6 weeks out....wow what the differance. If you can't see them send me a friends request so you can... you will start loosing again. Lauren
