I am 5 weeks out from rny and haven't been able to keep more than 1 to 1.5 ounces down without nausea and vomiting and I keep getting dehydrated. I wondered if I was doing something wrong. The doctor's nurse kept hinting that I must be taking too large of a bite or not chewing properly. Needless to say I was not feeling great about my surgery. Went for an EGD today and it showed I have a large marginal ulcer and that, that little sucker has been causing all my problems. I actually feel relieved! Whew treatable. My next dilema is what to eat. The gastro guy said "whatever you can tolerate" , my surgeoan has yet to call me back - I swear his staff is the worst at messages- and my nut is out of town until july. So I am turning to the board. The best anwsers I get for this journey come from here. Anyone else been here done this. Thoughts, advice and support always appreciated.

I had ulcers and have gerd...so I was miserable after my surgery. Here is what worked for me: fat-free lactaid (easy to digest and tastes good) milk w/ slimast powder added Kefir( means "good feeling" )-(a yummy yogurt drink w/o all the calories, carbs or sugar) *I highly recommend kefir, it has 10 active cultures, tastes great & will be good 4 digestive track. Gind at Acme, Wegmans, Trader Joe's, by the way, kefir is okay for people with ulcers Campbells chicken noodle soup w/o the noodles..tastes SOO much better than powdered broth mixtures. I add garlic when cookng then add cilantro and green onion on top. Campbells french onion soup...heat up and add cabot 50% light cheese wedge, melt in micro...tastes great Underwood chicken in a can (looks like a deviled ham can)...find next to the deviled ham eating & drinking slow and chewing minimum of 20 chews per mouthful does help, i get nausea when I eat or drink fast or too much hope u feel better, grace

Try Baby food, it's gentle on your stomach without the added chemicals they put in other foods. Shelia

I can strongly suggest you eat salads, spinach, romaine lettuce, healthy fats like olive oil, flax oil, and a high Ph water and your ulcer will heal itself. Stick to a vegetarian diet(mostly) with the exception of fish. IMHO. :-) Stay away from acidic foods altogether.

Patricia,

My surgery was on May 14th. I just found out last Tuesday that I also have a marginal ulcer. How are you doing with yours?  Is it healed yet. The gastroenterologist prescribed carafate. I was already taking protonix. I quit eating spicy stuff.

The biggest hint that something was going wrong was the problem I was having drinking water. I showed the surgeon exactly where is was hurting (halfway between my waist and chest and a bit to the right of center) and she thought it might be a marginal ulcer. The upper G.I. showed nothing, but the endoscopy found it.

Liquids are going down easier now. My drugstore gave me what they had of the liquid carafate and ordered some more. They were unable to get any more liquid and gave me chewable tablets. I don't know how they will be - the liquid was working so well.

Please let me kinow how you are doing.

Jayne
