My wife is super excited for her RNY on Wednesday...Now the nerves are setting in..... she wonders if she will hurt as bad as she did after her gall bladder was removed. I told her I didn't think so....she saw a butcher......and Dr. Pupkova is a surgeon. But I figured I would ask...Any of you have both procedures. Was recovery easier for one. I felt great once I got home...In fact, on check out of Barix...we went shopping before going home.... Post gall Bladder, she hurt for 2 weeks. Just figured I would ask.

I wish I had seen this earlier... I had a really bad recovery from Gallbladder surgery 5 years ago...2 weeks of percocets and bed. This time I felt great and was off pain meds on day 5. I think its because when you go to a general surgeon they do everything and a bariatric surgeon does only WLS. So they could probably do it blindfolded. I know thats the reason WLS has less complications than gallbladder surgery. It was on 60 minutes. I hope your wife does well... good luck. I hope she has a good recovery like me....Lauren

hi Steve, Did she have her gallbladder removed laparoscopically? I had it done open with the eight inch scar many years ago and was out of work for six weeks. They cut three major muscle groups. In that case it was so much worse that the RNY. My RNY was easy. On a scale of 1 to 10, I felt a three at the highest and only used the morpnine pump three times. I walked the halls a lot and never had the gas pains. Jayne (RNY 5/14/08)

Jayne I had my gallbladder taken out in oct 1978, while I was 3 months pregnant with my 2nd child. It definately WAS NOT done laparscopically. I don't even think that was around then. So, my question is, were you able to get the RNY lap? Waiting for surgery date...as the psych eval has not come back yet. Hoping for late July or early Aug. Hope to hear from you soon. Joyce Schneck

Joyce, I was able to have a lap RNY. My surgeon even hid one of my new incisions on the old scar. She also cut out some of the old scar tissue while she was in there. Good luck with your process. Jayne
