Hi, I had the Stomaphyx on April 22, 2008. I feel very disappointed in the after care by my surgeon's office. The "toolkit" is written for a gastric bypass patient and the food selections are in weeks. Then when I talk to the doctor's office, they give mixed information and tell me I will not succeed. I feel that I am just a statistic and this has more to do with her study and getting more patients for this procedure. They are not working with the "person" but more with a "study". Most days I regret having this procedure. I have had extreme downs. I have lost about 20 pounds. Currently I am eating beans, eggs, cottage cheese, protein drinks, yogurt, lentil soup and split pea soup - no meat or vegtables. I have noticed my pouch does fill up on less food and I have been more aware of what and how I eat. I do not throw up. I know the weight will come off - much slower than with the orginal gastric bypass - 9 years ago. But I think of healthy weight loss rather than FAST weight loss. I have not found anyone that has had this procedure to really discuss it with and it is so different than the gastric bypass. I hope more people will communicate on this subject. I need more input especially since the doctor's office is crazy making!!

I was one of the 1St that my doctor has done this procedure on and I am feeling the same way you are. I go back for a check up in june the info that there giving patients is based on what we are telling them. I am getting very discouraged I feel like I didnt have anything done because it seems I can eat anything although I havent ate any meat yet I feel myself starting to cheat .

Hi, Glad to hear from you. I am so lost in this process. I ate some very soft meats last week - boiled chicken and white fish and my surgeon had a fit. I told her I was following her "toolkit" but she then informed me it was for gastric bypass patients. She said "they verbally told me" but it was less than 24 hours after surgery!! I don't think my cognitive awareness was that good at that time. I was exhausted. What do they expect??? I think that just eating soft foods - like I did the 3rd week will be good. I would not eat fish or meat until after the 2nd or 3rd month. How have you been feeling emotionally? I have been down and irritable. Not my usual self. I had a good day today though. I hope this passes soon. Would love to hear more about your process and progress.
