protein HELP
Hi all,
I had my band put in on the 14th. So far I am doing good. I am a little worried about how I am going to get the required 60 grams of protein. I have been using the shots and Isopure drinks but the taste is driving me crazy and I really dont feel like eating or drinking. The only thing I could get down yesterday was sugar free popsicles. Does any one have some suggestions
Since I have to sip sip sip on water all day long anyway I start by drinking 20oz. of Special K protein water. Its basically flavored water with whey protein added to it. And it tastes good.
I have the same issue and I have to force those protein shakes down somedays or I also eat low fat, no sugar added yogurt.
I didn't have the band, but RNY, and it took me almost a week before I had any desire to eat and that was still with out an appetite really.

My surgery is not until May 27th, so I am no expert, but what was recommended to me is ProStat-64 which costs 29.95 at Bariatric Advantage for a 30 oz bottle. What is great about it is that only 1 oz. provides you with 15 grms of predigested protein. It comes in many flavors including natural which is tasteless & can be added to anything even broths.
Heck if it's only 1 oz. I can just down it straight! Anyway it made sense to me because I was concerned about getting in so much protein at the very beginning, so I bought a bottle last week for when I first come home from surgery!
Remember your body can only absorb so much protein at a time so break those protein bullets into 3 if it is the 42 gram ones.. I never could stomach the Isopure. You do need to force yourself to eat. Alot of people after the 2 weeks post opp get the small serving of refried beans with cheese from Taco Bell. It has alot of protein and goes down well. The key is to eat with junior utensils, small spoons or ****tail forks so help you eat the correct amount and slowly. Seems stupid but it works. If you don't eat slowly and not puree or really chew your food your going to experiance real pain even with the Lap Band. One of the hardest things is too eat and to eat small bites and slowly.
Ditto this. Aside from protein shakes and some peanut butter tossed in, the only other protein I can stomach now is fat free refried beans. Heated up with some fat free cheese...they're pretty good! I cannot tolerate chicken, even after pureed in the Magic Bullet. It tastes like sawdust and does not sit well.
hi I use the body fortress from Target and mix it with lactaid free fat free milk. I use one scoop of choc and two of the van. to make sure I get plenty of protein and it really tastes good. My husband is thinking about having the lap band done but we are still trying to get all the info. I had the other done in Oct and doing great. Anyway I had to tell you about the drink and it is only 15.00 for a 2 lb can. pretty reseaonalbe...
Special K Protein water ROCKS!!! You can buy them in bottles alread made or in the To Go pouches like Crystal Light. In 20oz there is 30 calories, 0 Fat, 7g Carb, 5g Fiber, 0g Sugar (no sugar alcohols) and 5g of Protein!! I drink 20oz through out the day b/t regular water just for some extra protein and flavor!! So far boughten the Reg. Ice Tea and Straw./Kiwi. Love 'Em!!!
