post op
I had RNY on May 8, so I can only speak to that. The first night in the hospital was HELL. I was in so much pain and the meds didn't help. That being said, I've read lots of posts where people didn't have much pain at all. Most of mine was gas pain. Upon coming home, I was more tired than anything. I made a diary of what I ate each day and I'm still learning about what my pouch can tolerate and what it can't (like chicken and beans with NF sour cream blended in the Magic Bullet - ouch!)
I could take a shower on my third or fourth day, I think. My incisions are covered in Steri-strips and once they fall off, they fall off.
I had my surgery on Monday May 5th and I was able to shower on Wednesday. And let me just tell you that was the best thing I did in the hospital. I will agree that the day of is hell and I wanted to go back to that moring and just run away to McDonalds. I was fine until I really started to know what was going on, which was a lot later in the day. I was functioning and was even on the computer for a bit, but then I realized that I had a tube up my nose and down my throat I freaked out. It was not fun anymore, not to mention since I had to stop my birth control a month before surgery I was on my period. I was not allowed to have the tube removed until Tuesday morning after I had my x-rays done to make sure the pouch is not leaking. But the days got a lot easier. I went home on Thursday morning and the actual going home part sucked. I started to feel sick and I had to hold 2 sets of flowers, so all I smelled were flowers which did not help. But like I said every day get a little easier. I went back to work yesterday and am just a little tired and slow. Not moving as fast as I was pre surgery, but I am still moving none the less. Good luck. Please feel free to ask me anything.
hi did you have a bypass or band ? you said today you went back to work how many days post op is today ? i have to go back in 1 week my surgey is tues june 10th and i go back tues june 17th i have a desk job so im not worried about that but everyone talks about how tired they were true? frank twins daddy
Hey Frank, its "old" Cheryl. I had my RNY on May 5th and I was back at my desk on the 12th. I am a little more tired when I get home than I used to be but it really isn't too bad. But I don't have to deal with two four year olds! It is doable if you are feeling really well after surgery. Everyone is different though. I am following every rule to the letter. My mind is not quite as sharp and it is taking longer to complete things at work but they won't get done at all if I'm not here.
