Passed my lab tests - surgery in 19 days WOOHOO/EEK
The last time I posted, I was worried that I had just been diagnosed with diabetes that appeared to be v.out of control. Well I am diabetic but it seems it is only mild at the moment (whatever that means as haven't been able to see my GP yet!) It is also more under control as I am now on the pre op diet, which is hard, I am very hungry all of the time, and sunflower seeds just dont seem to cut it as a snack. Alcohol is now out as are fizzy drinks, and I know my body is detoxing and I am losing weight.
Now I have to get focussed on the surgery, and am therefore declining social events for the next few (well several) weeks as I can resist everything except temptation.
I am excited and anxious about the surgery but the thought of having a normal and more importantly, healthy weight is kind of keeping me going....most of the time. Not going to change my mind I know that much but I have made a bit of an error in that I have booked my date without taking account of what my family are doing and they will all be out of the city/country, when I am in hospital...I have the prospect of having to come back to an empty house, 6 flights of stairs and no-one to work the liquidiser lol. Even that is not enough to deter me though. Too far down this road to turn back.
I would love if someone would add me as a friend on here cos it would be nice to be able to talk to someone over the next few months....especially as most of you are in the US and I'm here in the UK which is compounding my sense of being out of a bit...
Anyway just thought I would post my thoughts and a big thanks to all those *****assured me over the diabetes issue
Hope to make some friends soon D
Hi Dionne!
My surgery date is May 16 and I'm having a DS with Dr. Rabkin in San Francisco. I live in Chicago but he was highly recommended. He holds monthly weight loss meetings that outline all of the procedures, here in Chicago. I feel as though I know him and that helps me from getting too nervous.
Which type of surgery are you having? I was diagnosed with diabetes about two months ago but it's under control with Metformin. I never had any symptoms but it is a co-morbidity.
I don't have any specific pre-op diet but I've been seeing a nutritionist for several months and I'm on a high protein, low fat diet. The only thing that's going to change for me is the no/low dairy restriction. Also, with DS it's no sugar and no alcohol for a year. However, my sweet tooth is really a carb tooth so I won't miss the wine but I will miss the cheese and crackers!
I'm rather new at replying so I hope this gets to you.

Hi Marss
Thank you for your message and adding me as a friend
Firstly best of luck for your surgery next week. Hope all goes very smoothly.
As for me, I am having RNY on the 29th. I have been put on a liver shrinking/1000 cals a day restricted carbs/fat etc type diet. No alcohol or treats. But I understand why so I just have to get on with it. Just been to the pictures to take my mind off food lol.
I will try and check in with you again in the week to see how you are doing and will await your post op success with interest
Take care
Till Next Time
Regards

Hi there...
I just wanted to say congrats on the surgery date! I am soooo sorry your family will be out of town. Hope someone can come and stay with you.
I am in the process of still getting through the last test before my surgery date. For me that is a Cardiac Stress Test and an Echo cardiogram. They are next week, would have done them sooner but the hospitals camera was broke.. Just my luck. So I am hoping for my surgery date real soon!!
I just wanted to wish you the best of luck and if you need to talk, I understand and usually check on here at least once a day. So send me a message and we can talk..
Best of luck!!!
Kat
Hi Kat
I hope all goes well for you with the tests next week, I am sure they will be fine. I was worried about having mine but despite showing a couple of problems, they said it was nothing they couldn't handle so surgery still going ahead. My tests were last Tuesday, just got results on Thursday and it was a real sense of relief. Now I just have to worry about the op...lol
I really hope you get your surgery date soon.
Thank you for adding me as a friend, I think it really does help having people out there who understand exactly what this is all about.
Keep in touch and we can see how each other is getting on. There wont really be anyone who can come and stay with me after the op for the first few days after I get out, but figuring I will probably be sleeping lots and coming on here to see what's happening.
Take care and speak again soon
