Hi Everyone, I'm still trying to figure out this posting thing. So I'm sorry if I mess up. Anyways, I want to take control of my obesity and do something about it. I've tried for years and nothing has worked. I have been overweight my whole life and I'm sick of it. I want to have this lapband surgery, but I'm not sure if I qualify, if I'm doing for the right reasons, or if anyone else will understand me. I do feel my reasons are just, but I am afraid of what everyone else will think. Anyone else ever felt this way? My husband is worried and he thinks it is dangerous. But all the literature seems to say it is more dangerous to have a BMI of 40. I've read all your posts and it seems that maybe some of you can maybe understand where I'm coming from???? I dont' know...maybe I am crazy!!!!!! In any case, I am barely at the stage of having my first appointment with my new PCP for a referral to Dr. Oliak. Anyone had him? Like him? Any pointers for my first visit? Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!!! -Slo

Welcome to OH. You have come to the right place. I know I have many second and third and fourth thoughts. As long as your husband is willing to support your choice, it will be a lot easier. My husband was scared silly. I had the RNY done as the lap band is not covered in Canada. I, too, have had enough of being overweight. My concern is I am 45 and as yet have no other health problems besides "super morbid obesity" BMI 54.8 at start. I am 7 days out. I am happy I have made a choice to be healthy, but I really miss the old unhealthy eating days. I am sure that will get better, especially as I lose weight. No on can really tell you what you should do or not do. Ultimately, you are the one to feel the effects of your choice. It will not matter what you do, everyone will have different opinions. It is like being overweight, some people treat us with respect and some people can't get past the excess weight. Research as much as you can, the more knowledge, the better informed you will be. Good luck
