I called my nutritionist yesterday with a question and she told me it was a good question but she didnt know the answer to it so I'm throwing it out here. I am 16 months out I really enjoy kashi granola for a breakfast treat once in a while. I wanted to try some of their protein bars but they list and ingredient of BROWN RICE SYRUP, or brown rice crystals they only have 9g of sugar but have dried fruit in them so i dont know if the sugar count is from the fruit or what. also is brown rice syrup or brown rice crystal a sugar or what? thanks to anyone who can help Kathy 2-27-07 dr diaz 465-221-175

Brown rice sugar or brown rice syrup is a a sugar but will not affect your blood sugar as refined sugar will. I eat totally organic foods and am learning that organic foods may have the same carb count and sugar count but they don't affect me the way processed food does. I have been on a totally organic diet for 3 months now and have lost 23 pounds without really trying.. The only real difference is my snacking stopped all on its on when I started eating organic foods.. go figure. Shelia
