May 13th surgery cancelled!
Hi y'all;
I need to vent a little to my cyber support group. I had a rough day yesterday. I had a cardio ultrasound and hold and behold I have a problem......mayocardiopathie and something. I was in such a daze that I lost the last bit of the name. Anyways, it was supposed to be routine as a shadow was noticed while I was having a chest x-ray following lingering asthma from the pneumonia last October. I have no symptoms to indicate a heart problem. No blockage and the blood work is excellent. My gp just wanted to make sure given the surgery coming up and that the xray is not a good indicator for heart problems. I was so very upset and feeling so drained. I was so ready for this surgery. I am happy that the problem was noticed and caught in time. I realize that it is treatable and that it isn't cancer but I am afraid. I am young and was not prepared for this. No heart condition in the family and I wanted to get my weight in check before anything major happened. I guess I waited too long. Eversince I am menapausal and had my uterus and ovaries removed two years ago, I have been having issue with heart palpitations. Everyone thought it was a lack of hormones. I guess everyone was wrong....
Thanks for allowing me to vent. There isn't any support groups for me to go to in my neck of the woods and I needed to find myself amoungst friends who would understand.

Dear Brenda,
I'm sure you are crushed with disappointment....but seriously, thank God your doctor was so thorough. It is a big surgery ( I am awaiting a revision), and you need to be in as good a condition as possible before, with your doctor knowing beforehand what to look for and what to expect afterwards. I feel for you, I truly do. Keep your spirits up and get well soon.

Sorry to hear your surgery was postponed. I am sure postponed is the word not cancelled. I too have heart conditions, cardiopathy and had a very low ejection fraction of 16! 5 years ago. I have a wonderful cardio doctor and the surgery was his recommendation. As a matter of fact, I have two top cardio doctors recommeding the surgery because it will be "good" for my heart. The heart conditon caused other conditions such has high chlos, diabetes, sleep apena and others. This was due to weight gain and the lack of exhaustion resulting in the lack of exercise. I am already told the day after surgery I can stop taking 3 of my meds. I take a lot of medications. I have been considering this surgery for 3 years and finally decided it is a must for my heart and the life style I want to resume. I do not have a date yet but my surgeon said mid July, just waiting on the nutritional counseling needed for pre certification. Just pray and be thankfuld they found your condition pre op not post op. You can prepare your body now and the chances of success will be much greater.
Nancy Phi, Your kind words and experience gave me hope...... thanks so much for taking the time to reassure me and put things back into perspective. I am feeling better today.....I won,t be a Mayster but I am determined to be a WL winner! I am seeing the internist this week. Started betablockers. Apparently, they think it is due to a viral infection from my pneumonia! Go figure! My heart muscle aren't functioning effeciently. A little lazy as the doc mentionned. LOL. Thanks again!

Brenda,
You are so lucky they found this. I'm waiting for my stress test next week. When I went to see the cardiologist and he learned that my father died of a massive heart attack at 53, he decided that he wanted to do my stress test within three weeks of my surgery. Everything else is ready to go for my May 14th date. I don't anticipate any problems, though I dread all that walking. You'll be joining us when your heart is ready. We'll save some space on the loser's bench.
