scared for my cuz
It sounds like you are a loving cousin. May I suggest that you ask your cousin about the surgery, her surgeon, the risks involved and read up on the procedure she is having. All surgical procedures have some risks but remember being morbidly obese has it's health risks too. I'm sure your cousin is experiencing some of those already.
Remember many many many of us have uneventful surgeries, lose all the excess weight, have no complications and resolve all our current health issues. I wish this for your cousin.

Jackie, the best thing you can do is support her. Learn all you can to help her. Any surgery has risks. Shoot, childbirth has risks. But, for me personally, the health risks and what could happen if I kept gaining weight far outweighed any surgical risks. I'll be celebrating one year out on May 25th. The year has FLOWN! By my 10 month anniversary I was already below my surgeon's goal. My surgery was EASY. When I woke up in recovery my pain level was 1-2. I had open RNY so I was in the hospital a few days. I joked constantly that I felt fine and I would have been just as happy with outpatient. I came home on Memorial Day (May 28) and celebrated my birthday the next day. I could never give myself a better birthday present. I started at 265.8 and am now about 144.0. I had both knees reconstructed after a fall in 1987. 265 lbs on reconstructed knees is NOT good. Now? I can run, and do run, about 5 miles every day.
So, in the end, give your cousin all your support! Go to a doctor visit with her. Go to a support group meeting with her. Best wishes to her!!!
