Topic: hypoglycemia or diabetes?
hi everyone...at first i didn't think much about this little problem but now it's starting to get on my nerves...my 1 year anniversary was may 16 and i have lost almost 140lbs...(10 lbs below goal weight) in the past couple of months it seems like my blood sugar is going haywire! it seems like i have to eat every 2 hours or so and if i eat too much sugar (no dumping for me) i feel like i'm going to jump out of my skin! is it possible to develope diabetes once you lose all your weight? i guess you could say i exercise excessively...i walk 9 miles on the trail 4 or 5x a week (36-45 mi total a week) and do an hour of circuit training and/or aerobics class 3 - 4x a week....i try to get in 1800 - 2000 calories a day....anyone else having these problems? thanks lizzie
Topic: It's my surgiversary!!!
Hello Everyone,
It's been a while since I've been on the board, but wanted to post that it's been one year today since my gastric bypass.
Here's my success story:
I started at 276lbs and as of this morning, I weigh 180lbs. I went from a tight size 24 to a comfortable size 12. I do mixed martial arts 3 days a week and actually have defined muscles in my arms and legs..It's amazing!
This has been the best decision I ever made!!
Thanks for everyone here who provided support early on...sorry I've been out of touch.

Topic: RE: Really Has it been almost a year?
Gayla you look FANTASTIC! Happy One-Year Surgiversary! Isn't it wild to look back to this time last year? It's been the most incredible ride. I thank God every day that I did it.
Sorry to hear about the health issues. That stinks. Hopefully it'll be resolved easily.

Topic: 5 Day Pouch Test
Well, I thought it was time to give myself a little shake-up, to realign, so to speak my eating. Although the majority of carbs I eat in totla are from fruit and vvegetables, it did seem that I was getting quite a bit every day. Also, my appetitie has really grown. I was a bit alarmed, but not distraught or overwhelmed, so I decided to give this a try.
So far, I made it through the first two all-liquid days and, much to my surprise, FINALLY find a protein I can drink. (I was miserable after my RNY a year ago - all of the protein drinks I tried made me nauseous.) I'm using an unflavored soy protein and making my own shakes. Probably many of you have been doing this already - but it took me a year to find it.
Today I am on "soft proteins" (eggs, finely mashed tuna, etc) and doing just fine. I do notice a difference in my hunger level, and my "losing the carbs" hasn't been as painful as I thought it would be. A side benefit is a minor "cleaning out" so to speak.
I'm really glad I did this - after my 5th day on Thursday, I hope I can begin on a modified basis again, much like I did a year ago. True, I'm sure I'll be eating more, but not as much as I did before this.

Topic: RE: What would you do?
Headaches are common during a woman's period. It is usually caused from low iron. I try to take iron supplements toward the end of my period if it is a bad one. Another thing is that you could be dehydrated. A dry brain gives you a headache! Good luck.

Topic: Really Has it been almost a year?
Yep, it really has been almost a year, and it seems like just yesterday that I was fretting over all of the "risk" involved in the surgery and how I was so fearful....I'm 2/3rds the size that I was a year ago. I still have another 70 lbs to go, but it will happen. I can't say that I have had a lot of problems....I'm so much healthier than I was back then. I just keep singing Dr. Deveney's Praises and thanking him and his staff for helping me to get my life back. Even my grandchildren are amazed at the things I can do now (including getting down on the floor an playing with them).
We bought a fifth-wheel last July, and we have been traveling (living in the fifth-wheel) and are hoping to sell our home and get a little bigger fifth-wheel. This is something I would have never thought of weighing 327 lbs....but now I actually fit in the little restroom, and can take showers in tha*****bitty tub! My husband and I actually fit in the bed together! Life is just flat good.
One health problem has come up - I've got bradycardia (slow heart beat). It's causing some exhaustion issues, and I am not exercising like I was hoping I would. I even drug my old walker out and have had to use it. It's weird, because before the surgery I had high blood pressure issues...now slow heart rate issues.....ugh! Oh well, possibly a pacemaker will be put in - and that's a quick and easy resolve. I just wonder if this is common for others after surgery.
Hope everyone else is doing well also!
