I am glad you made this post. I love shark, tilapia and flounder. I find seafood in general is a good way for me to get my protein in. As far as carbs with the holidays here i found a small sweet potato before I work out is a nice treat with nothing on it just baked. It gives me the energy I need to work out.

Congratulations Chantal, That is a wonderful accomplishment and you deserve it. Okay, so now we are even. When I first made friends with you many months ago, even before we became active with our discussions on the May board, you brought me to tears (well...Mr. Tough Guy..maybe just a bit weepy eyed) with your story. I agree, we certainly see a new side to life that makes one determined NEVER to go back. When we first met it still seems like a lifetime ago...yet only yesterday in other ways. Keep up the great work. John

Oh my dear Mayers I think I may cry. I posted a couple of hours ago in the weigh-in post that my scale had died and that I would try to stay off it for the next 2 weeks because I have finals and term papers coming out of my butt and don't need the stress right now. I was showing my dad what the scale was doing and it actually worked and marked 173.7. With clothes on. I had to weigh myself about 4 times to believe it. Not only have I lost 2lbs this week, but this put my BMI under 30 and out of the obese category. I have never NOT been obese. I am just SPEECHLESS. I don't even know how to put into words the things I'm feeling right now. And here come the tears! This surgery has done so much for me...things I never would have been able to accomplish on my own. I freaking LOVE my RNY. I am never, ever, going to be obese ever, ever again.

Okay folks, some of this process had been getting a little old. I found a need to reinvent some of what I was doing in an attempt to keep up the old excitement. I was able to identify some foods from some other members around the boards. I REALLY want to recommend roasted edamame. It is a roasted soy nut and it REALLY satisfies my need for junk food. Just one ounce has 14 grams of protein and only 130 calories. I feel like I souldn't be having that when I get into a bag and take my ounce. Not only that, if I don't overchew it, it makes me feel pretty full until the next meal. I found mine at the healthfood store. I also made up a batch of chili this weekend. I was getting tired of spending all that money on Wendy's chili and had a hankering for some good ole homemade stuff. It is so good and I have it all frozen in 1 cup servings. I am also thankful for the chicken meatballs at Sam's club (in the cheese section). They are expensive, but so good and packed with protein. I still love my caramel flavored Snickers Protein bars. They are packed with protein, but 1/2 is enough because of the sugar content. I also love those roasted chickens at Wal-mart. That chicken lasts several days and the meat can be made into chicken salad with light Hellmann's and pickle relish. I'm still looking for more "RECHARGE" foods to help me get these last few pounds off. I was getting too comfortable and eating more carb-based foods. The more carb-based foods I ate, the more I wanted. I see now that this protein thing is really an important long-term issue. If you have anything that you use (even one item that you really like), in terms of foods, please take a minute to share. Thanks. John

Hang in there Mayers! My scale died on Wednesday and I don't plan on buying a new one for a bit because I think I was a little too obsessed. I'm going to try and go 2 weeks without weighing in. Plus I have finals...so I'm going to have enough on my shoulders as it is! Wish me luck, have everyone has a good week

Interesting Topic.... I have also experienced the same thing. I have lost only about 4 pounds over the past month. I have been discouraged, but not "throw the towel in" kind of discouragment. I think that the realization that the honeymoon is over and now the real work begins. I miss those days already when no matter what I did, I lost weight...and lots of it. The words that I heard before the surgery are becoming a reality. To lose weight in the first year is almost automatic. Year two and beyond success will depend totally on how the person uses the tool. So, I've done some soul searching and realized that I am the one in control and I've been back on a good track since Thanksgiving. The scale is giving me some encouragement that perhaps I was losing after all and my body is just being reluctant to give it up. Thanks for this thread everyone...it was what I need to read. I'm sorry that I don't spend as much time over here as I used to. I can't believe how busy a person can become just living life to the fullest. John
