Checking in (long)
Hi all, It has been months since I have been on. I have been going through a very tough time. I got sent home from the hospital with a 103 temp. That lasted for 2 weeks, until one night I was at the kitchen table with my mom and my shirt felt wet. One of my incisions had ruptured. It poured and poured smelly infection. After calling him everyday, and going to see him a few times he said everything is ok. I ended up calling him after it ruptured and he called me in two bottles of antibiotic. My reg doc had home health come out three times a week to help clean the wound. After that, I was having a very hard time keeping anything down. I lived off of watermelon. I told my sergeon that something was wrong with me. He told me to suck it up that he did his part and that I needed to do mine. He made me cry. Finally he sent me to have a upper gi done, I went and took one drink and they told me to stop. I told the guy it hurts know, he said it hasent left your esophagus yet. I told him I knew he couldnt tell me anything but for piece of mind could he give me anything. He said something deffiently was wrong. They sent me to a gastro doc and he went down my throat. When I woke up my mom told me that we had to come back tomorrow because he could not get the scope down and he wanted my surgeon there. I went back the next day and he took pics. My opening was the size of a blade of grass. He has to stretch me a total of 8 times. I was still getting sick all of the time but I could eat a little. By know my body was so weak, I tried to work ( I work in a school cafe) I was going to my Reg Doc everyday and he kept changing meds. Finally on a Monday morning I went in and said that I wanted to be put in the hospital. They checked my blood pressure, and made me lay down, he called 911 and the ambulance took me. Tuesday morning they decided it was my gall bladder and removed it. I felt great. He was sending me home on Firday, I stood up to go take a bath and hit the floor. He said the hospital was making me sick and sent me home. He called me over the weekend to check on me, and I told him I still havent walked. Monday morning 911 was called again and was sent to a different hospital. I stayed there over a month. They finally fiqured all my problems was caused by the infection I got sent home with. I then got sent to a rehab facility, I stayed there over a month. All in all I was in the hospital 57 days. I was told that I would be in a wheel chair for over a year. It has been 5 months and I am know walking. I look like a infant just learning, but I am walking. I go to rehab three times a week, and hopefully I can go back to work in March. I am getting avig (hema goblin) once a month (3000.00 a bottle) I am on my 8 bottle. All in all I am doing great, and have lost a total of 119 pounds. I went and seen a lawyer and my surgeon has 9 mal practice suits against him, he killed someone and almost killed a fellow doc. I want his license taken away. I f you have any questions just ask. Thanks Maureen
Maureen,
I'm so sorry to hear that you have had such a rough go of it. We know that there are real risks involved and things like this do happen. It just seems so sad when it happens to one in our group of friends. I hope you are on the path to brighter skies. On the postitive note, 119 pounds is just an awesome number. Keep that up if your health permits.
John
Maureen, I am so sorry for what you've been through. I hope that you are well on your way to recovery. Please keep us updated on your progress. So nice to hear from you. Are there more of you out there lurking that need to come forward? Let us hear from all of you! Maureen, I'll be praying for you. Hugs, Sue
Oh, Maureen, I'm so sorry you had to deal with all of this! That they even sent you home with a 103 temperature SCREAMS malpractice. Thank goodness you've documented all of this. I hope you find a terrific attorney who cleans that guy out. I was hoping while reading that the word "malpractice" would pop up. Good for you. I hope you're doing much better now. Congrats on the 119 pounds gone. I wish you nothing but the best!
