I have to have gallbladder surgery on Monday!
Okay...so I've been having some strange pain in my mid-upper abdomen for a few weeks. It totally comes and goes...and when it happens its usually for a couple hours. I had a strong suspicion that my gallbladder was on its way out....
I went to see my surgeon on Monday cuz it was really bothering me--and he sent me to have my 6 month labs done---which all came back fine (except borderline anemia). He started me on Nexium prophylactically in case it was an ulcer, gave me some Bentyl to help with the spasms, and scheduled me for an ultrasound for this afternoon.
I went and had the ultrasound done....and after the tech was done---the radiologist herself came in to have a peek. She said it didn't look good--and that my gallbladder was definitely looking "sickly". So I went upstairs to tell my surgeon what she said. He went downstairs, looked at the films, and came right back up to tell me I needed to have it removed. Dangit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so upset. I don't want to take time off work...especially not just before Thanksgiving....and I don't want to have surgery again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, surgery is scheduled for Monday a.m......don't know a time yet. I'll try to keep everyone posted. It should just be outpatient surgery as long as all goes well. Wish me luck.
On a positive note..........I've lost 114 lbs in a little less than 6 months!
Courtney,
I know what you are going through! I had my 6 month labs drawn the day before I had my gallbladder out (which was halloween!). The surgery was a piece of cake. He did mine outpatient. You should be feeling pretty good by Thanksgiving. A little advise - get up and walk after surgery. I had severe pain in my abdomen and my husband called the doctors office and the nurse said it was from the gas they use to "inflate the belly" in order to do the laproscopic surgery. It worked wonders! When did you have your WLS? I had mine on a Wed. and I was back to work the following Tues. I ended up with a bladder infection so I had to take an extra day before going back to work.
It looks like we are running neck and neck. I am also down 114 pounds from 4/17 when I started my 1 month pre-surgery diet. My RNY was 5/15. Please let me know how your surgery goes. I will keep you in my prayers. Lets keep in touch!

Courtney,
So sorry to hear that about you needing surgery again. I have a suspicion that I might be heading that way too as I am becoming more and more dependent on my stomach meds, and was going to talk to my surgeon at my follow up next week. And way to go on the weight loss. I am dealig with my own thing right now. I fell last week hard on both knees. They have been very bruised but one of them was not getting better. Turns out I cracked my platella. The orthopedic surgeon is giving me until monday to improve. If not I have bought myself an MRI as he suspects something is torn, but he knows he will have to DRAG me to surgery kicking and screaming LOL! My surgeon is going to find this hilarious. First I tore that hernia this summer now I break my knee.....what is next. The Ortho says to remember when falling I have lost my padding and it is always the skinny ones that break bones. Too funny as I see myself FAR from skinny!
Please keep me posted on how you are doing. And let us know when you have your surgery so we can send up extra prayers!
Donna
First, congratulations on those 114 lbs Courtney! You're doing fabulous!
I'm so sorry about the gallbladder thing. I had mine out in 1989 so I didn't have to deal with it and the WLS. Now I know why my surgeon takes the darned thing out during the WLS if you have it. So darned many people have to turn right around and get it out. My surgeon told me if you still have it going in, you won't have it coming out.
I'll keep you in my thoughts. It does really suck to have it out right before Thanksgiving. You'll do fine!!!!

Courtney,
I'm so sorry to hear you need another surgery. I do hope it makes you feel better! One good thing is that thanksgiving is not as much fun as it used to be now that we don't stuff our faces as much lol. I could really care less about it except for going shopping the day after thanksgiving lol...i love sales what can i say!
keep us posted and know i'll be thinking about you on Monday!
Hugs,
Rebecca
Courtney:
I had mine gallbaldder out 3 months to the day from my wls. I had mine done emergent though. I had seen the surgeon for my 3month follow up and was sent for a ultrasound on that thrusday, had ermergency surgery on saturday. The one good thing was my surgeon was on call that weekend so he did do it. You should be fine by thanksgiving. It was a piece of cake for me. Much easier recovery then wls.
Please keep us posted and good luck. Hugs and kisses
