3 month post-op visit...

Okay...so I had my 3 month post-op visit today.......and I went in there feeling SO good--and left feeling sorta sad and down!!!!! I have lost 74 lbs since my surgery on May 17th and I thought I was doing really well. I had made a goal for myself to have lost 50 lbs by 2 months...and 70 lbs by 3 months, and I met both of those goals. What I didn't know--is that my surgeon's goal for me was to be at 286 today....not 296 (where I'm at according to his scale w/ clothes on-------I'm 293.2 on mine with only my undies on!). However, according to his little chart thingy...I should've lost approx 7-10 more lbs. I was so sad!! He told me I'm doing great and I look great........and he is the NICEST surgeon EVER...but I still felt SAD and like a failure when I left. Now his next "goal" for me is to be down to 250 by my 6 month visit. Which would put me at 117 lbs lost.......I wonder if I'll make it. I've been working out at Curves--so hopefully that will help me get there. I'm feeling a little better this evening. I went to support group and several people told me I looked really good...one girl even said I look "AMAZING". Wow. How sweet of her!!! Oh yeah--and at work the other night, this girl said I was getting so "skinny"! Me?? Getting skinny? NEVER heard that before. Now believe me--I have a LONG way to go before I'm skinny....but it felt so good to hear it! Anyway--just wanted to give an update...and do a little ranting! P.S.--I have 3 month pics up on my page if anyone hasn't seen them yet or wants to see!

Wow, I do not think I will be at 74lbs at 3 months! In fact I am holding at 48 at now 12 weeks.....so to say that by next wed I will lose even 50 seems like a stretch. So to me that seems a bit high. Don't get discouraged and please do not let it get to you. Besides 7-10lbs is nothing. I am so sorry it got to you like that!!!! And no matter how nice you say he is, he obviously has not said that to you without first saying it to himself and know how it feels. I mean come on, all WLS patients have suffered from low self esteem and feelings of failure for so many years. That just seems so wrong to me......74lbs is AWESOME!!!!! And based on others that are slower losers like me it is fantastic! You go girl!!!! Don't let what he said deflate your awesome progress!!!! {{{{{COURTNEY}}}}} Donna

Courtney, I feel so bad for you, but I just looked at your pictures and you are so beautiful and I can really see how you are changing. I think you are doing fantastic and your surgeon must realize that not everyone is going to lose according to any chart. It's just like the ideal weight charts, are they ever very realistic? I don't think so-o-o-o-o! Hang in there and you will win your own race. Hugs! Sue

Courtney, you DO look AMAZING!!! My surgeon said he has "charts" where we should be but he's found they're not always on the mark. You're doing fabulous so don't get down on yourself. Keep doing what you're doing!!! * Cyndi *

Courtney, I'm so sorry to hear your appt didn't goes as good as it could have. I think your doing GREAT. I mean 74lbs in 3 month is really outstanding. I wouldn't put much stock in your surgeons numbers. They are a guideline not written in stone! You really do look wonderful and you have come a long way. Ask yourself this do you feel better? Are you getting around better? If you answered yes to those then you have made a change in the right direction. The scale is just a number! Keep your head up and keep up the great work! Hugs, Rebecca

Sorry you are feeling down about your appointment. I think 74lbs is AMAZING! I have my 3 month appointment tomorrow and I am thinking I may be waaay off from where my surgeon wants me. BUT I am less than I was the day I first walked in there. I say that to say this, you are doing great and a little at a time before you know you wont even know where all the weight went. maxine

I agree with everyone else girl...you're doing fantastic! My surgeon is happy with me losing anywhere from 8-12lbs a month, so you're way, way, way past those goals. Curves should help too, keep that up...can you believe you'll be over 100 lbs lost in just a couple of months? It's still all seems so surreal.

Courtney, You have done so well that nobody should be able to rain on your parade. You just keep doing the good job that you have been and you will hit your target in no time. You can come here for support and we'll give it unconditionally. Isn't it great to come here and have such a nice bunch of friends. You are doing great and we are all proud of you. John

I don't know what charts YOUR doctor is using, but my surgeon and I were both thrilled with my 51 pound weight loss after 3 months. I think you're doing just fine!
