Hello, I haven't been sick yet and was wondering what are the foamies? How do you know yo uhave them, what happens when you get them, etc.... I would also like to know if someone can explain to me what head hunger is. How do you know if yo uhave head hunger versus real hunger? Thanks

Foamies are caused by food that gets stuck in the stoma, or the opening of the pouch...the saliva has no place to go but up. There's nothing you can do about it except wait until it passes...which in my case is usually after I make myself throw up whatever is causing the foamies in the first place. They aren't pleasant! Head hunger is simply wanting to eat without needing to. I can usually tell it's head hunger when I'm not doing anything and simply want to something to much on. I like to set my meal times, so I know whatever cravings I get in between aren't my body needing food. Head hunger is what got me into this mess I know, I used to always give in.

Hi Chantal, About the foamies.....how can the food get stuck? Doesn't it go straight into the intestine? I had the foamies when I had the ring (similar to the lap band) but since I had the ring removed and had the RNY done, the foamies are gone. Did you have the ring and the RNY done together? Hugs, Esther

Nono, no ring here. Food can get stuck if you eat too fast. Think of your pouch as a funnel, so if there's too much food, or the opening of the pouch is too small, caused by scar tissue for example, food blocks the saliva from going down. They really aren't pleasant, you aren't missing a thing Esther!
