Exercise?
What are you all doing for exercise?
I've decided that now is the time to get into an exercise routine. I have more energy and I'm not so worried about feeling nauseous from too vigorous of an exercise. I've been walking the dog, but that isn't really a work-out, and my dog is very lazy and I usually end up dragging him back home.
I got a cardio bellydancing dvd today, but it sucks! I did go for a good run on the treadmill, I lasted longer than I thought I would...so hopefully I can work my time up and build some endurance. I don't plan on joining a gym until I start school again, so I need to find things I can do at home first.
I've been mixing it up a little...I don't want to get bored.
Two nights a week I go to Deep Water Aerobics. They offer it here at my local community center and I love it. I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis and so a lot of walking/running can be hard on my joints. Exercising in the water is a lot harder than I expected it to be. It doesn't really get my heart rate up very high, but it's good for the muscles.
Two nights a week I am using an eliptical machine at the gym- good for the joints. And then two nights a week I am lifting weights with a trainer. The more saggy skin I can avoid, the better!
One night a week, I rest
BUT- you should try swimming. VERY good cardio, plus it's nice now that it's hot out so the pool usually feels good too.
GOOD LUCK!
Kathy
I think I have that same bellydance dvd. If you have Comcast digital cable check On Demand. I do the Leslie Sansone "Walk" programs on there. Or, get NetFlix. They have LOTS of exercise DVDs. I'm sticking with good ol' Richard Simmons right now. I have a TON of his videos and his toning bands. I was getting "bat wing" arms there for a bit and Richard's been helping with that problem. They're looking okay now. LOL When it's not so awful hot I walk 1-2 miles at the park across the street. It has a 1.1 mile track already marked. My surgeon hasn't cleared me for the gym and won't for a few months. Since my knees are both shot, I can't do the intense workouts anyway. Sometimes that's not a bad thing. LOL

Hi Chantel,
I started karate (mixed martial arts) about a year and hal*****ook a break while my DH was in school (about 9 months) and just went back two weeks ago. I go three days a week (2 Core classes and 1 kickboxing) and they are hour-long classes. In a couple of weeks I'm starting grappling too (martial arts wrestling). I absolutely LOVE IT! I hate working out a gym, but this is perfect for me!
Every class combines strength training, stretching and cardio into a hour-long class. You can either take 1 or 2 hours per day depending on which classes you want to take. There are adults of all shapes and sizes and everyone is there to have fun and get a good workout!
I highly recommend it!

Hi Chantal,
I need to exercise more. When I was in Vegas with my family for two weeks I swam everyday and lost 10 pounds and was eating a lot more and not always good and still lost weight. Now that I am home, I am trying to eat better but I am not getting any exercise because I am back to work. You are encouraging me so I am going to get some exercise going.
Thanks for the encouragment.
Hugs,
Esther
Hi Chantal and gang!
Since about two weeks out I've been walking 50-60 minutes 5 or 6 days a week. Sometimes the walking was hanging on to a grocery cart (LOL) but I was still walking. Since about the first of June, I have been going to our local amusement park with the grand nieces and nephews. Most days we go all the way to the water park and I swim in the wave pool. Heck, sometimes just keeping my balance when the waves come is a workout!
Yesterday I started walking at a gym near work. Got in about 2 miles in an hour, varying my pace some. Got up a good sweat and got my heart rate up to about 140 peak. Kinda cool. Now, of course, I have muscles in my tuchie that are telling me all about how stupid I was yesterday!
When I was given my okay at my six week checkup, I immediatly joined the gym. I walk on the treadmill 1-2 miles and then I work my abs, arms and legs at least 5 days a week. It has really become habit forming. I actually look forward to goin to the gym every night. It certainly is a better habit than food.
