Three Weeks and Sorry I did it

Hi gang. It's so great to read about all these successes. I'm 3 weeks post-op today and wondering why the hell I did it. I've felt like crap for a week and a half. I can't get anything but pudding down. Even the Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks come back up. I can keep down pudding and water. I'm so frustrated it's not funny. I can't even count the number of times my husband has said "you wanted that stupid surgery" and I'm starting to think he was absolutely right. Is anyone else sorry they did it? * Cyndi *

Hi Cyndi We had surgery the same day. Check with your doc something may be wrong. I'm able to keep down pretty much anything I've tried. I've had fruit, cottage cheese, broths, mashed potato. My pouch doesn't like water at all. I get instant pain and nausea most of the time when I try and drink it. Not really good with the sf pudding either. Hang in there it takes some people a little longer to come around and be able to tolerate more. But call the doc and check it out. Sending well wishes you'll start feeling better soon Angela L.

((((Cyndi)))) Please call your doc. You could have a swollen stoma or something which may be causing the issue. It isn't normal that you shouldn't be able to keep anything down and my handbook says if that is the case, to call the doctor. Let us know how things are going. M.

First off ~Hugs~ now you might not like what I say here and I"m sorry I'm not trying to offend you. I'm sure your husband hates to see you like this but you should tell him that comments like that doesn't help. Whats done is done and what you need now is support! Ok with that said. I know how your feeling I felt the same way. I even said to Jamie why didn't I try harder on my other diets. I was so miserable. I didn't have the throwing up problems you are but I had my own problems. Give yourself a break and I agree with the PP. You should call your dr or Nut. You should mix protein powder into your pudding so that you get more protein in and that is the only way you will start to feel better. I know it sucks I don't ever want to eat pudding again but I lived on it in the begging also. What kind of foods are you getting sick on. Chicken broth, cottage cheese, beans? In a few weeks you will be feeling better I promise. I still have bad days and some of the time I'm just a big witch. Try and focus on something else. Go to a movie, for a walk in your local gardens, go play kick ball with your family (not sure who is around you) Go swing at your local park. Just get your mind elsewhere! Rebecca

I agree with Rebecca. You need all the support you can get right now. I'm really sorry you aren't feeling too good yet, it passes though, I promise! Just hang in there, and definitely let your surgeon know how you are feeling.

RNY on 05/07/07 with
Which surgery did you have? Did you have just the RNY? or the RNY with the Ring? I don't understand why you are having such a hard time but if I were you, I would call your doctor and he may suggest doing an upper GI to see if there is a block of some sort. Unfortunately, too much is going down too easily which bothers me. I am almost afraid to eat because I am afraid that if I start, I won't stop and I will overeat. Call your doctor Cyndi....that doesn't sound right. Love ya, Esther

I've seen my doctor and everything's fine. It seems to just be me. I had the RNY. I told him everything makes me sick and he said "welcome to week 3 but I promise it gets better". I've talked to some other friends who've had the same surgery and they said they had the same issues. I've decided to stick with pudding. lol I did have half of a hot dog today at lunch. Of course I had no problem with that. lol I have the goofiest body. Even that wonderful hot dog tasted crappy. Nothing tastes good anymore. Yes, my husband has been a complete ASS about the whole thing. I came home from the hospital and I've been pretty much business as usual since then. I had to start driving my second day home. Of course *now* I'm always tired. I'm so bassackwards. What's done is done and either my body starts to cooperate or it's going to be in for a real long shock. Thanks for the notes everyone. I just need to get my body to snap out of this. * Cyndi *

Hi Cyndi- I'd be concerned you weren't becoming malnourished or dehydrated if you can't keep anything down. My partner had RNY on 4/24/07 and has had nonstop nausea since about two weeks after. She now is getting fluids and protein from a PICC Line, a semi permanent IV. I'm glad you were able to keep the hotdog down. Have you been keeping track of your protein and calories? Getting your vitamins down? We all knew there could be complications to this surgery but do what you can to take care of yourself. If you are too tired take a nap. Keep bugging your Doctor and nutritionist. This is your Life! Warm thoughts and Hugs, Patti

I don't have any problems with water and the vitamins. The shakes, even though I add extra water or milk, just won't stay down. I'm on Stage 3 and I chew very, very well (maybe too well) and I was able to keep the hot dog down. I made chicken nuggets for my daughter (my recipe) and, through 42 chews, I was able to keep a couple of those down as well. I think my husband is finally realizing how exhausted I am. Thankfully school ended yesterday so I don't have as many things to run around for. He took our daughter with him to finish a client install so I get a bit of quiet for a while. I just signed up for FitDay.com and I'm going to start using that to track the calories and the protein. I'm ordering the unflavored Unjury and hope that will do the trick. Thanks for the thoughts! Hope your partner rebounds quickly. Give her my best! * Cyndi *
