Normal Weight Loss - Or Not!!!

I am 5 weeks post-op and am starting to have weight loss worries. I haven't had my first fill yet but I'm no longer feeling the construction I felt when I had my surgery. I'm not getting that feeling to 'stop eating' like I did before. I have only lost 18 lbs. My doctor tells me my weight lost is fine but when I read that others who had their lap-band surgery after mine have lost more weight it's getting very discouraging... I'm scheduled for my first fill on 6/20. I've decided to go back to a complete liquid diet. Hopefully that will speed up my weight loss.

Hi, Tammie; You will find that as you "heal up" and the swelling goes down around your new band, that you will have less restriction. It'd normal for banders to gain a little at this point, since an open band allows almost as much food to go down as no band, on most people. Hang in there; your first fill should bring your feeling of restriction up to where you can be satisfied on much less food. If you do go on liquids, make sure you're getting enough protein. Have you found some kind of exercise that you enjoy? Warmly, Nancy in CO

Hey Tammie, I know it's hard. We all compare ourselves to the other people on the boards. Try to concentrate on the fact that you lost 18lbs so far which is great! This is just the beginning Patti

Thanks Nancy and Patti, You're right, I need to celebrate my 18 lbs. Before the banding, I probably would have 'gained' 18 instead!!!
