EVERONE how are you doing?
I post only once in a while but stil wanted to give my own update. I'm doing great. I'm 12 days out and have been working in my flower garden since the 2nd day I got home from the hospital and planted some veggies and herbs too so that goes to show how good I feel already!
I've been on pureeds since yesterday. So far everything seems to go down fine. Today I drank too big of a gulp of water and had that uncomfy chest feeling but that's about it. Had some issues with constipation once I started full liquids but now I chew a few Benefiber tabs a day and got that taken care of. lol
I'm down just about 17 so far and that includes what I lost on the pre-op liquid diet. Today I'm wearing a pair of capris that I couldn't even get buttoned or zipped the day of surgery and today, they are zipped and buttoned fine! Today was my first day back at work and people commented that they could already tell in my face. That's where I can see it too. I always tend to start showing loss there first.
I'm looking forward to see where this journey takes me!
Michelle
Hi Rebecca,
I haven't ever posted here, I usually go to the main board. I thought I would tell you how I am doing. I had my surgery 4 weeks ago today and am down 21 lbs. since surgery. This past week I 'm really starting to feel alot better. I started taking a iron supplement and I think it has made the word of difference. I was so weak before. I still have times when i'm at home during the day and I feel like I'm missing something, like theres a void and then I realize that it's the food! I never realized that food was such a big part of my life! I'm really getting burnt out on tuna, cottage cheese, and protien shakes! But all in all I think everything is going good and I'm starting to adjust. I wish everyone the best and look forward to hearing how you all are doing.
Take care, Janeen
Hi I just started posting on this board, but thought I would jump in too. I have my two week post op appointment tomorrow. Excited to get to weigh again though I can really tell it in my clothes and where I never dried my clothes because they would shrink. I am drying them now to shrink them up some LOL! Otherwise I am feeling pretty good. I should get the ok tomorrow to increase to pureed foods and we are suppose to talk about my return to work. Ugh! The longer I stay out the harder that will be to go back. But before I can I have to work out some kind of plan with the nutritionist becaseu I work 12 hour shifts and it is hard to get breaks......so how I am going to do that eating well should I say drinking almost constantly like I am now I do not know. The DR said we would talk about it at this visit. He wants me to take my time going back because he knows what demands that will put on my system. Just going to have to see what we work out.
I hope you have a wonderful trip for your anniversary. My husband and I were married 10 years in Feb.
Sorry your DR visit was so frustrating! Nothing worse than not getting to take the time to ask the questions you would like. From the sounds of the differnt responses sounds like different drs and nutritionist have us all at differnt paces. I however will be glad to get to the stage you are in. Having to drink 1 oz every 15 min is getting old. LOL!
Have a great time next week!
Donna
Hi Rebecca and all of you May Surgery buddies,
I didn't post much but I did read your posts prior to your surgeries and then of course after. On Wednesday I will be 3 weeks out and I am doing well. I am sick of full liquids and can't wait to move to pureed foods this Wednesday. I'll be on that for 2 weeks and then to soft foods for a week. July 3rd I will celebrate my independence day from mush! At least I hope I will be able to handle some real whole food then.
I had my first dumping expereince today. I ate a low fat, low sugar fudgicle and wow, did I soon understand about the sugar gram warnings and the feeling of utter quick sickness! I picked up a store brand product and think the grams of sugars that was listed had to be wrong, 3 grams, either that or I am a lot more lactose intolerant than I ever was before! I felt sick to my stomach, started to feel very warm, my mouth watered as if I was going to. . . and then I decided to stay close to the bathroom. I couldn't not believe how fast anything could travel through my system but believe you me, it did! Unbelievable! I do not want to go through that again!
I haven't been on a scale for almost 2 weeks but I think I have lost about 40 pounds so far. I lost 20 before surgery and another 20 since then. I am going to do a weight check in tomorrow to find out exactly.
I think this week is really the first time I have not had any pain twinges on my left side and I seem to be able to bend and move freely now without any reminders of having had surgery. It's a nice surprise & I hope it really is the end to the gotcha pains!
Glad to read how you all are doing. How about the rest of the May folks? I know we had quite a few May 23rds!
Stay well, think healthy, be happy!
Jan
Hey Rebecca...long time no talk!! I'm glad to see you're doing alright.
As for me...I'm doing alright too. I'm on soft solids now...for another 3 1/2 weeks or so. Ugh...I'm sick of everything I can eat too. I'm allowed to eat lunch meats, cheese, cottage cheese, crackers, beans (yuck), chili, tuna salad (yuck), egg salad (yuck), chicken salad (yuck)......as you can see...I don't like the "salads" because I don't like mayo or mustard! I can also eat like scrambled eggs (which made me , baked/mashed potatoes, soft canned veggies, some fruits (no pineapples, grapes, oranges, or grapefruit yet), and yeah--you get the idea. The problem is...I love the mashed potatoes & baked potatoes, love fruit....but they have no protein. I've basically been living off of cheese, yogurt, and lunch meat. I've tried a little bit of turkey and it's been okay as long as I eat slow. I also tried some ground white turkey today...and that was okay too. Otherwise, I've pretty much stuck to what I'm supposed to eat. I HATE protein shakes. But I was able to drink some NSA CArnation instant breakfast today---and that was alright...but the protein is low. I think by the end of the day I will actually be close to my 60 grams of protein (minimum) AND my water for the first time. I'm excited about that. I also just finished the whole one mile walk away the pounds workout---I'm glad I can do that pretty easily now too. I want to lose 100 lbs before we go to DisneyWorld in the end of October! I'm down about 32 lbs (all post-op) right now...and I'm about 3 1/2 weeks out. I've been a little bummed this last week because I went back to work--and wasn't getting in enough water or food...and wasn't exercising....and the scale only moved about 1.5 lbs this past week. It's hard because I work 12 1/2 hour shifts in a busy neonatal intensive care unit...so I'm constantly busy with no time to think about food/water. Bummer. I'm trying to increase everything and see what happens. Wish me luck!! And way to go everyone!!!!!!!!!!
Courtney
Hello ALL..
I can't believe how wonderful you are all doing, I can't reply to everyone because that would be hard but I wanted to say. I understand Courtney how your feeling, hang in there your doing a GREAT job!
John, I'm going to miss you but you have a wonderful time this summer and please do try and check in now and then at the library.
Cyndi, It is so nice when the people closest to us pay a compliment. Sounds like the food is staying well with you and that's always nice.
Nancy in CO, I have never heard of Quickgym but it sounds like my kind of place LOL Let me know how it works out for you k?
Samantha, WOW 25 inches that's nice! I have lost around 20 but I can't wait for more of that to come off my tummy LOL.
Easter, Hey GIRL! I know that the food is getting old and I think I read that your dr wants you to stick to protein only until you have lost 75% of your weight? WOW that's going to be tough but I know you can do it!
Chantal, HEY! I can't believe you are already 6 weeks out! I can't wait mostly because I get more food choices LOL. Arg about the old habits I know I have had some sugar free candy and wondered if I was going to become as crazy about those as the regular and they are not that great for you either. Another thing is eating out, I have found myself wanting to do that more and more also..gotta cut that out. I missed it but it was freeing not to have that pull for it. Keep me posted how it goes
Susan, WONDERLAND!!!!! GRATS I can't wait. Food is blah but maybe that's going to be a good thing later in life. I mean isn't that what got us here in the first place? Or love for food. I'll let you know how it goes for me ROFL
Kathy, 5 miles how impressive. I'm lucky if I walk 1 LOL. I just feel so weak I hate it. what is your secret?? Keep up the great work!
Christie, I hope you come around a lot more We don't bit and all have a great time. I mean who else to vent to then someone how knows where your coming from right? Sounds like everything is going well for you and that's nice. I haven't dumped either and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. I too haven't really tested the waters. I guess we will just have to wait and see!
Michelle, I love when I can put on my old clothes that didn't fit before! Mine are falling off so that's a good thing except for now I might have to get some for my trip LOL just any excuse to shop I guess
Janeen, Don't be a stranger, We are all great here. I'm glad you posted. Hang in there you will get new foods soon and then you will be back to all the food choices and trying new things.
Donna, Welcome to the may board. I hope you stick around and share your journey with us! I love hearing how everyone is doing so please keep posting. If you have any questions or just need to vent were here for you! I hope your nutritionist can help you figure out what your going to do when you go back to wor****ep us posted!
Jan, How do you do it? Keeping off the scale for 2 weeks! I had to cut myself down to once a day LOL and that is sometimes a challenge for me. Glad to hear your doing so well. Keep us posted!
I hope you all got this message and know I"m thinking about all of you!
If you haven't posted yet you better
Rebecca
Oh yeah....I'm tired of everyone sayin their clothes are falling off..... =( LOL. I've lost 32 lbs and mine seem to fit the same!! Is that crazy? I don't understand it. My scrub pants seem to be falling off......but the rest of my clothes are the same. It's getting frustrating. I want to see it in my clothes...not just my face!!!! Grr!!
Hey you!! It's so great to have an update from you. Congrats on making your minimum protein and water. It's such a great feeling.
Food-wise you crack me up, you sound just like me. I had to stop buying potatoes because I could eat them all day long. And my parents got crates full of strawberries and it's almost all I ate this weekend. Stupid empty calories! Hang in there. We gotta meet up in chat soon!
Like several others, I don't post here often, but wanted to give an update. I am three and a half weeks out from rny and three weeks out from hernia surgery. I've been on pureed for a week and a half and haven't had much of a problem with foods except I found out I can't handle whole milk products, including cottage cheese. I'm fine with 1% and skim, but whole milk (and cottage cheese from whole milk) land like lead shot in my pouch and sit there for a while! I am amazed at how I really don't care about eating many times. I get my protein, water and walking in, but am not nearly as interested in eating six times a day as I thought I would be. It's kinda nice!
BTW - has anyone heard from T.Rob lately? I've been out of touch (in Indiana for the in laws family reunion).
WOW!!! Down 60 pounds!!! Wearing size 26/28!! SO much more energy, stamina and NOT SWEATING PROFUSELY!!!! My sunglasses are too big for my face, and my 5x tees have become big baggy sleep shirts for me!!! My underwear is falling off and I am in a smaller bra band size! I am having a few issues with solids... have thrown up a number of times, but I am learning. Still most confident with soft solids or liquids - I have a lot of soup, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese... trouble getting in 3 protein supplements and all the water, but it is not terrible, so... I try each day to meet my goal. It is all good!!! I am not regretting it one little bit!
