Addicted to the Scale

I have a problem. I can't stay away from my scale. I think it's starting to make me a little nuts. I need to put down the scale and slowly back away... I have no will power against the scale! I know I shouldn't weigh every day- And I'll admit it- I weigh several times a day. I am a full blow addict. Does anyone else need a 12 step program to keep them away from the scale? Do you guys weigh once a week? Or only at the doctor? What is your strategy? Kathy

Kathy, I had my surgery the same day as you and decided before surgery after seeing posts about those "discouraged because the scale had not moved in 3 days" that I would get OBSESSED. So I decided that I would ONLY weigh at the DR for awhile. Of course after you posted your 1 week loss I was EXCITED to get to go to the dr even for a minor problem so I could get a one week weight. I howver removed the scale from the house to remove the temptation. I get to weighon Tuesday that will be 2 weeks! Though I had a non scale victory today. I was in size 30 (or 4 x) and I was able to get the 24 up and zipped! Ok, a little snugger than I wnated on my incisions so I put them back....but wow could not believe I could get in them already! Good Luck with your scale.....and if you can set a goal of when to weigh and stick to it.....let me know how it is done! LOL! Donna

I'm Cyndi and I'm also a Scale Addict. My husband has fits that I weigh myself every morning. But, it's fun to see it move so fast! My doctor has one of those old-time scales and it's about 4 lbs higher than mine. So, when I have a doctor's appointment I weigh and take that weight with me. The nurses just write my weight and a notation like (scale at home) and he's fine with that. But, we really only should weigh once a week. Maybe I'll be a good girl and just weigh on Friday mornings since my surgery was on a Friday. I guess maybe I should get the hubby to hide it? * Cyndi *

Kathy, I completely know where you are at! I have been there in the past, and so I will only weight once a week, and my son records it so that I don't get too hung up on it. It is an easy transfer addiction, and when it gives positive feedback, all the more draw to do it!!! Just remember what your main focus was in having the surgery and focus more on the health and wellness aspect if you can. I know it is hard. Hang in there. All the best, Beth

OK, I'll admit I weigh daily. But I don't expect to see the numbers go down every day so when they don't, I don't get upset about it. Be careful with that 12-step program if your bathroom is small. Twelve steps might put you in the back yard! -- T.Rob
