A Nice breakfast protein drink.
I hate dealing with getting my protein in as many of you do but I have been playing around with a variety of things to get a nice taste as I meet my goals. Here's a nice light breakfast or whenever drink for those who like orange creamsicles.
4 oz of no pulp orange juice
4 oz of vanilla soy milk or skim milk or 1 %
1 4oz cup of Danon Light and Fit Sugar and Carb control vanilla yogurt.
1 scoop of any unflavored protein powder.
Mix the OJ and Milk and then add the proetin slowly and stir constrantly. Once mixed to a smooth consistency, add the 4 oz. cup of yogurt. Mix until creamy. It tastes great.
This gives you 12 oz of fliuds, between 28 and 32 grams of protein depending on your porotein powder (includes 7-8 grams of protein from the milk and yogurt). For me it goes down well and definitely adds to a fuller feeling.
I use Unjury protein powders. I find them to taste better and they don't seem to have an after taste.

Hi. Thanks for trying to help. Sounds good, but I was told I couldn't have orange juice. After reading all these posts, it's obvious that different Drs. have different ways of doing things. Makes me wonder what is best.
I was released from the hospital Friday & went back today already for a checkup. They took out my drain tube. I've lost 12 lbs already - in 5 days! How are you doing?
For anyone reading, is this about average for the first 5 days? Just curious. My husband says he can tell already. Wow. Happy with results, but I'm not feeling the "I'm not hungry at all" feeling. Wish I was. It's harder than I thought it would be to not have my old favorite foods. I'm even dreaming about them. Like when someone dies. I guess I am grieving the loss of them. I dreamed I smoked a cigarette too & I quit them 7 months ago! Kinda funny, but it is hard. Every commercial seems to be about food. And I have a 21 year old son home from college and a husband, so I can't ban food from the house. I just wish the idea of food turned me off so I wouldn't even want it. But then I would have trouble getting down what I need. I guess it's not as bad as the cravings I had before. At least I can not give in to them now.
Boy, I've rambled on. I love this site & am very interested in hearing from all of you. Especially anyone that had surgery when I did. May 30th. Can't believe I've done it. Looking forward to a new life.
Good Luck Everyone!!
Mary
OJ is off limits to me too....at least for awhile! guess like you said....all drs are different....like I see a lot of you had to do a liquid diet before, but my dr says taht there is not enough to show that it really makes a difference so all he had my do was one fleets the night before.....that was it. The only thing ihe said was don't go all "last supper" carzy with a big meal....but I did nto want to be miserable in the hospital so I stuck to chicken noodle soup two days out and went to clears the day before.
And I know what you mean about commercials.....so I started watching all the movies I have been wanting to see but havent had time instead.
and reading....I am doing lost of reading on this site to take in all I can.
That is great about the 12 lbs!!!! I do ot have a scale....thought about buying one but then I know I would get on it everyday and I do not want to start that. So I will only wigh with checkup for now. I have my first one at 2 weeks which is next Tuesday.
Drain? I did not have a drain. I had my surgery the day before you by the way.
Donna
Hi Donna. I only had to do a liquid diet from lunch the day before surgery. I'm seeing people say that they had to do it for a week or more. I'm glad I didn't have to do that. I was told to have a decent breakfast the day before and then liquids until midnite, then nothing. I didn't even have to do fleets. I feel lucky. I think all these Drs. should get together & find what works that is easiest on the patient & have some kind of standard that they can all go by.
I'm having trouble with the protein, which means I'm feeling more hungry than I want to. Just keep trying to get it down.
I had a drain tube from last Wed. surgery until Monday post op visit. Nurse said it would be a fast, take my breath away pain removing it, but it didn't hurt.
I really hope you are doing very well.
Mary
Hi Mary! well I am just thankful that I did not have to have a drain. LOL! It looks like you are abotu a week ahead of me. How are you doing? Getting to eat pureed foods yet?
Anyway, I went to the Dr today. Was not suppose to go until two weeks which is next Tuesday. I developed two big lumps on the outside of my thigh hard, raised, warm, painful. Well since they were on the outside I did not worry about a DVT but I called the on call anyway last night. He said to come in in the am. Well I did and they think it is a inflammation in one of the superficial veins I have caused perhps by the Bovie pad during surgery. So, since I was there anyway he asked about weight loss. I told him I took the scale out of the house because I have seen posts on this board about not seeing the scale move in three days....etc and I do not want to be attached to that scale and I am afraid I would be. So I will only weigh on the consistent scale at the office for now. So, the dr siad sounds like a great idea and "since your here anyway...." (I could tell he was excited.) I was too at the 13lbs!!!! Which means with any luck I will be under 300lbs at my follow up next Tuesday! I am flying now! LOL! I could not believe it.....I expected some but 13 in one week.....wow!
Thanks for listening!

Hi, Mary! Looks like we are surgery sisters; I had mine on the 30th too. I came home the next day; my doc removed my drain in the hospital before I went home ~ it didn't hurt but boy, did it feel weird!!
I feel like I am doing really well. I am comfortable and able to move around, but I do get tired by the end of the day. I don't have my post-op til Friday, but I called my doc's office yesterday and asked about adding in a little protien, since I was feeling weak and shaky (I was on clear liquids for a few days before surgery, so I haven't had any in a while). They told me I could have small amounts of yogurt, and could try my usual protien shake. So far so good!
I've not felt physical hunger, but "head hunger" is certainly real for me! I've been a sugar addict all my life, and I really want to use my recovery period as an opportunity to kick the sugar habit once and for all!!
Hope you're feeling well. I wish you a speedy recovery and great success!
Yours,
Nancy in CO
Hello "surgery sister" Nancy! So glad to hear from you.
I probably would've come home the day after surgery, but I live 2 hrs + away and I seem to have alot of trouble with anesthesia. I can't wake up. Horrible groggy feeling for a long time. I had planned on staying until Friday, so it worked out well.
My husband is from Colorado. We would sooo love to move there. Hoping to when we retire.
I am looking forward to learning more about you and our other May surgery buddies.
Best wishes.

If OJ is off limits, you may want to try Crystal Light classic orange or sugar free tang, etc. . .
It's really quite nice.
Also, I make a nice mocha-chino I used General Foods International Coffee Swiss Mocha sugar free de-cafe with 1 scoop of chocolate protein. I add warm water first to the coffee and mix, then add my protein, then I add lots of ice and blend to crush the ice. It ends up like a Duncan Donut Coolatta
