Protein....how are you doing?
Well, protein seems to be hard for a lot of us, huh? I have no trouble getting in the correct amount of fluids, but struggle w/ the protein. I am supposed to be having 50g, but have only managed to get down about 35-40 grams. Another thing I am having difficulty w/ is the Optisource vitamins. I hate orange flavored (only flavor they come in here) stuff to begin w/ then they're so big & gritty...all 4 of them. Past 2 days I've managed to get only 3 of 'em down. I get to try a scrambled egg on Wed. I am super excited about this
I am having trouble gaging down the Protein shakes too but I bought some Whey Gormet Strawberry Banana and if you put it in the blender with ice and water it tastes like a smoothie.
My doctor is letting me have regular meat as long as I chew it into baby food consistency. I do okay with turkey, tuna and chicken but I tried beef and it made me deathly sick. It tasted good but boy my intestines did not like it at all.
I have been sticking to cottage cheese, tuna with mayo to moisten it and my Whey Gormet. If my stomach feels upset I go back to broth for the next day.
Try the Whey Gormet...no kidding, it's really good.
Hugs,
Esther
For the two weeks after surgery, I took an XS protein shake (35 g protein in 11 oz), put it in the blender with three scoops of XS or Nutrilite protein powder (XS- 12.5 g per scoop, Nutrilite - 10 g per scoop) and blended with ice. It made about 14 oz of liquid. Then I sipped it throughout the day, knowing that once I had it down, I had all I had to have (my goal was 60 g protein per day). It helped being able to get all the protein in a small amount of liquid. Good luck!
