Protein....how are you doing?
I'm doing horrible! It's enough to remind myself to eat. I'm trying my hardest to get in the water too. It's impossible for me to get the protein in. I bought those bullets and no matter what I do, I just can't stomach those things. I have some shake mix. It tasted great pre-surgery. Now all I do is gag. I know I'm only 1 week out but I have to start trying.
How are you all doing it???

I'm not doing well with protein either. Still trying. Loved milk before surgery. Now, just not good. So far the best I've tried, is using Carnation Instant Breakfast, Chocolate, low sugar. I think I should have sugar free, but couldn't find it.
The other thing I'm having trouble with is calcium. Again, I couldn't find what was recommended, so I bought what looked best. It said petite pills. Far from it!! Even if I cut them in half, they are still big and I'd have to take 7 full pills to get what I'm supposed to. I have to find a different kind. I go back to Dr. tomorrow, so I will be in Indy, where I should be able to find what I need.
Good luck on your new journey. I'm glad I found this site.

Too bad we don't have the reduced sugar Carnation stuff here, I should look for it next time I'm down south. Have you tried looking for chewable calcium supplements, most of them are pretty tasty, you just have to watch for the sugar content if your pouch is picky. My doctor prescirbed pills practically the width of my thumb and no matter how I cut it, it just never went down. So I went for the chewable.
I know exactly what you mean. Nothing tastes the same. I don't even like coffee anymore :zap:
I went to GNC today and bought several different kinds to try out. Over on the main board they just had a big post about it. Matrix, Unjury and Walmart brands were the most popular.
I'm sipping an Isopure prebottled one now as I type. It's not soo bad but has some aftertaste.
My guess is that we are all different and you will have to keep trying till you find something that works for you. :juggle:

Don't beat yourself up about the protein intake just yet...keep sipping the water, keep hydrated and do what you can with your shakes. Maybe try getting unflavoured protein powder? You can add it to yogurt and purees when the time comes.
I thought I was doing really bad until I started using fitday...I usually get in 60 or so grams a day, it isn't quite enough, but way better than what I estimated!
I am doing pretty good with protein. I bought On Whey from GNC French Vanilla Creme, I like to mix it with my decaf coffee. I also like the Unjury brand, chocolate. I also use the Carnation Instant Breakfast No Sugar Added. I like all of these pretty well. I have also tried the Unjury Chicken Broth, but it has been out of stock. I also use the Atkins Advantage low carb drinks. I bought those at Wal-Mart. I like both of the chocolate varieties. It really is a personal choice though. I know some people like the Isopure, but I couldn't stand it.
Good Luck!!
Hi Cyndi,
I haven't checked back on this site since surgery. I am actually doing well now with my protein intake. I discovered a nice cappachino/kahlua coolatta drink.
Here's what I do: I use a belnder and add a full scoop of chocolate Unjury Protein (20 grams of Protein) and a half a scoop of unflavored Unjury Protein (10 grams), I then add chocolate or cappachino Slender Soy Milk (less fat & lactose free - can be found at ACME stores in the Organ Section), then a spalsh of Kahlua Flavored coffee syrup (sugar free and avail at Sam's Club), and lastly I add ice and ice and more ice. I throw the belender on crushed ice and wow, I end up with the best coolatta ever.
Another receipt I use is with General Foods International Coffee Swiss Mocha suagr free and decafienated. I use ho****er (not boiling) and mix the GF coffee, then I let it COOL DOWN to a nice warm not too hot temp, this is important since most protein powders should only be mixed at tempurature below 130 degrees, and once it is cooled down, I SLOWLY add chocolate protein (20 grams). It's a nice morning breakfast drink. I put all of this in a large 20 oz mug. I get my fliuds and proteins in easier this way and save the puddings and the jellos as snacks w/o adding protein.
I've also been successful adding unflavored protein to my brooths and soups when they are not too hot.
Hope you are all well!
Jan
