Hello All. I had my banding surgery on 05/24/07. I woke up in the recovery room in severe pain. Apparently they had trouble waking me up and I heard the nurse asking for my CPAP machine. The trouble is that I have never been diagnosed with sleep apnea even though I thought I had it so I don't have a CPAP machine. They kept me in the recovery room for an extra 1 1/2 hrs to help me breathe. I had to beg for morphine as they told me if they give me any morphine I would take lighter breaths or may stop breathing. I cannot put into words how painful it was to cough in the recovery room before I was given any morphine. I was later transfered to my room still in severe pain and given a morphine pump. About 2 hours later I burped and the majority of the pain was gone. The only pain I had was my port which was very managable. From then on I had a great time in the hospital. The nurses were great and I visited with other lap band patients during my walks. I went home the next morning and have had port pain which is no problem. I was surprised at how hungry I was but that was also very managable. Then I had the great idea of going to work on Tuesday as I have a totally sedentary job. Within 1 1/2 hours I had to call my mthr to drive me home. I had a gluecose defficiency and my blood pressure dropped, I was sweating excessively, my nose and eyes started leaking and I was clearly unstable on my feet. My doctor started me on protein drinks the next day and I have felt great ever since notwithstanding the constant hunger pains. My weight has gone from 327 to 311 and I am excited. I remind myself of that when the hunger pains get really bad. I am really looking forward to my first fill as the doctor says my hunger pains should stop then. It has been interesting so far. I am getting so impatient as I really want to start working out now but there is no way I am going to jump the gun again after my embarrasing experience at work. LOL I hope all other May'ers are also doing well.
