Hypothyroidism and WLS
I have an underactive thyroid. I've been on levothyroxine (sp?) for about 2 years now. I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago. I've been crushing my pills to take them since. My Dr's will run the usual thyroid blood tests every so often to make sure my levels are doing ok, and adjust from there. I have been told by my Dr's that with the proper bariatric diet and excersize and taking my meds as directed, there should be no difference in weight loss/keeping the weight off than a bariatric patient who does not have an underactive thyroid. Hope this helps... sorry I'm not father out of surgery to give ya more of a first hand experience!
OK thanks. I am at 125 also. I didn't think about having to crush the pills, but thats so true. I found out I had thyroid problems last Jan, and I have gained 155 lbs since!!.. which leads to the WLS. I have nerve damage in my right leg and foot, and mid to lower back. I am ready to get my life back to be able to fight my thyroid problems better w/ diet n exercise, I am 22.
thanks,
Cindy-
