Surgery Thursday and "Monthly Friend"

Hi All, I have surgery on Thursday (ACK, I'm getting nervous!) and it appears my "monthly friend" is starting... does anyone know if this causes a problem? Any suggestions? Should I use a pad, take a tampon?? I really don't want it right now... it'll make me feel all yucky and gross, especially without any undies on! Sigh...

Hi Jenn, Having your monthly during surgery doesn't cause a problem. I too was supposed to have my period last week during surgery and it didn't show up apparently the nerves or surgery itself scared it away for the time being. I did go prepared however...I brought some long kitchen tongs that have a slight bend upward on the end and some cottonelle flushable wipes. It helps with not having to bend over to wipe and to always feel fresh down there. Tell ya what, I did use them twice during my stay to make sure I was fresh as it was hard to bend over with the staples in. Nurses are willing to help always but if you are like me, I'm a do it yourselfer. I did mention it to my nurses that I was supposed to have my period...I brought underwear and pads...they said they also have some bigger pads (not diapers, but what they give postnatal moms) and it's easier to change and so forth. So you have options. It will be great and you will be ecstatic to be on the losers bench. I really worried about this particular problem and it was all for nothing. You'll do great! Jamie

LOL, I had my "monthly friend" during my surgery. It was kinda of gross, but it's easier than rescheduling!! (Make sure that you bring flushable wipes w/you, it made it a lot easier) gross right?? lol.... GOOD LUCK!!
