Hello to all my Mayers..............just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced what I'm experiencing now. This is post-op day #3 for me and I can't seem to eat or drink much of anything. It hurts to go down! I feel like I've eaten a whole thanksgiving turkey-and when I try to sip on anything...it really feels like my stomach will blow up. I'm still having a lot of gas--which I thought would be gone by now. Wrong. (Maybe I'm still having a lot because of the extended surgery time??) I called my surgeon this morning because when I got up--I tried to sip on a protein drink. I got down 1 oz.........and I was almost in tears because it was hurting. I haven't had any pain meds since last night---because mostly I'm just sore and gassy. My surgeon told me to hold off on drinking anything for the next 6 hours (as long as I continue to urinate)......and then start back up with just clear fluids--nothing else and see how it goes. If it doesn't go well--he wan'ts me to call him back. I HATE food at this point................anyone have any advice?

Sorry you're hurting Courtney Could it be because the fluids you're taking in are cold? That can shock the opening to your stomach causing it to contract a little...and that hurts. Or is it more surgery-related? I had gas pains for about a week...especially in my chest area. Those hurt! Don't stress about the protein, and I really hope the clear fluids go down better soon...it does get better, I promise! This first phase only lasts a few days!

Hey Courtney, I came online just for this specific reason. I am getting to the point of tears. I am doubting why in the hell I did this to myself. I still have a lot of gas too. I have had 1 protein shake today and only 12 oz of water. I am having a very bad day. My stomach (or what I think is my stomach area) is grumbling. I feel like it's hungry, I try to drink, it gets an instant full feeling when I do. I am so sore. I am off all pain meds too because my pain is from gas which the pain meds do SQUAT to help with. I am going to call my surgeon tonight if it doesn't get better. The problem is is I still love food! I see my husband and daughter eating and it's killing me. I don't have any advice for you but please keep me updated on how you are doing and know you are not alone. I cried myself asleep for my nap and woke up crying...I hate this. Jamie

Hi Courtney, Everything is very swollen inside right now and everyday the swelling will get less and less and more liquid will go down. Three days after surgery is very soon after surgery, so be sure to take your pain meds so you can get the liquids down. I was swollen too so the doctor suggested I drink crystal lite slushes (slowly) or ice chips. The gas will pass and when you have your first bowel movement, life will be good again. Hang in there, it will get better everyday. Hugs, Esther

Are you sipping your drink? You cannot drink alot at one time or it will hurt because you are putting too much in your new pouch. It will get better and think of how much you will lose from this and be healthier.

I also hurt when trying to drink after surgery. I tried taking very small sips and it worked. Take your time sipping. You shouldn't be drinking more than 8 oz. an hour. It got better after 5 days. I will be 2 weeks post op tomorrow, believe me it does get better!! ~~Betsy
