Hello everyone -
So i'm curious.... How long did you all have to wait for your surgery date? I want to get a realistic picture of how long I will have to wait. I feel that Im gettin way to excited and I havent been to my initial consultation yet. The only thing I got out of the way is the seminar.
Any information would be helpful. Thanks everyone.
FYI - it's great to see all the excitement and everyone trying so hard to reach their goals. Its been very uplifting reading everyone's pages and post.

Hi "M"! Welcome!
It's different for everyone. For me, it'll be almost a year to the day I started the process that I'm having surgery (I'm having my surgery May 30 and started looking into it the beginning of June of last year). That's because my insurance required a 6 month diet and then the clinic appointments and submittal to insurance alone took about 3 months then another month or so between meeting the surgeon and getting a date.
Your best bet is to call your insurance and get specificially what their requirements are for weight loss surgery. Find out which procedures they cover. The most commonly known procedures are RNY and Lap Band, but they are not the only ones. There is also the Duodenal Switch (an EXCELLENT choice and the surgery I originally wanted but insurance didn't cover ), the Vertical Sleeve (which is the first part of the Duodenal Switch) and the Vertical Banded Gastroplastic (VBG). So research all your options as well.
Good luck with everything!

I've been reading the board almost everyday. I have to say that I feel so comfortable here. More than what I do even with my family. In the sense that I know I can share my weight and my goals, and feel like here i will receive encouragement rather than smart comments or the typical "oh my god, you cant weigh that much!"
Thanks all...
