Hello! My surgery is scheduled for May 24th. My doctor wanted me down to 400 lbs, but I didn't make it but he's going ahead with the surgery HOWEVER I must keep losing. I did 3 days of a liquid diet to make a cut for my Monday weigh in. Monday I ate food again and went up 5 lbs. Today I'm back to liquids, but STARVING! For those of you on a liquid diet, what are you eating? Are eggs ok?? They are part of the list of "right after surgery" liquid phase in my book. I need to lose like 10 lbs by next Monday yet. I lost 7 in 3 days, so I am hoping liquids until surgery will get me down further. Help anyone?

Jenn, Eggs were not part of my liquid diet. I was able to have crystal light, sf popsicles, cottage chesse, Atkins protein shakes, yogurt and broths. It is very difficult, but not much different than the several weeks following surgery. I would eat a prepared package of sf jello a day. It gave me the feeling of "bulk" eating. Please commit yourself to sticking to it. I looked at it as an indicator of whether I could do this After surgery. Good Luck, Susan

I haven't had surgery yet, and my date is May 23rd. I am also working on trying to get some more weight off before my date. I have been drinking two protien shakes a day (I use EAS Whey Protien) and one Lean Cuisine. I know that right now increasing my exercise is the best thing that I can do to burn calories. So, I am walking for about 20 minutes 3 times a day. It seems like my whole focus right now is totally on myself. It's a good thing I don't have a job. I have a husband, and no children at home, so it is easier for me to focus on me. I am still struggling with being hungry, and I have cheated now and then, but when I cheat, I make sure that it is something that will satisfy my hunger and not just go for the things that I have tried so hard to get out of my system (sugar, candy, cookies, cake, frosting, cookie dough, chips, french fries and fat filled treats). I hope this will help, even if just a little. Good luck getting the 10 lbs off, and even more luck with your surgery! It will be fun to compare notes after we are on the otherside! Gesch

Eggs aren't part of my phase I diet either. I had a really hard time with the liquid diet as well. My advice is keep drinking water, it will give you the sensation of being full. Also, keeping your protein levels up will prevent you from feeling really hungry. In addition to the protein drinks I did all soups, and two protein bars each day (this was my surgeon's pre surgery diet). I picked the bars by optifast - chewy carmel. Ok those didn't have the most protein but they taste like candy bars. I did luna bars for real protein. I did lots of sf popsickles and sf jello too. Once I had a routine of what I ate when I felt more in control. My surgeon said that my liver really shrunk and she was able to visualize everything very well so it is worth sticking it out. Good luck.
