14 day liquid protein diet
Hi, everyone! Today is the start of my 14 day liquid protein diet, preparation for my RNY (lap procedure). It is scheduled for 5/29! Its nearly noon and I'm doing OK so far. Have or Are any of you needing to do this too? Doc said that I would loose fat around my organs first with rapid weight loss (via liquid protein) and that would make the lap procedure easier and minimize complications. I'm all for that! I need to check in with my dietician about other things I can have. I think I can have almost anything that is 0 calories. What have your experiences been like? Any suggestions for me? Thanks, and Happy Loosing to you! Jean
Hi. I just started my liquid diet on 05/10/07 and it is a struggle but I am determined to be successful. I thought I could eat rice cakes but my friend who had proxilal gastric bypass 2 years ago told me that I should only ingest liquids because I need to flush my body. She also told me there can be up to 15 lbs of stool in the digestive system that I need to flush out. I am calling my Dr today to verify that rice cakes are in fact out.
My experiences have been frusteration and cooking new reciepes for my daughter(figure that one out).
My suggestions, stay strong. You can do this. I have heard of Dr's not doing the surgery because of a fatty liver. Nothing is more important than getting the surgery done with as few complications as possible. I tell myself this constantly during my many weak moments.
My surgery date is 05/24/2007 for the lap band.
Sharon, thanks for the encouragement! 15% LBS!!!! You're right, nothing is as important as getting the surgery done with few complications. And, If being on this diet will increase my success, I can and will do it!!! I am so excited to finally have a surgery date and even to be able to start this diet because it means surgery will be happening soon. Good luck on your surgery and stay strong! Jean
Hi Jean!
I start my liquid diet on Sunday - surgery is 5/30, so I'm a day behind you! (my surgeon's program requires a 10 day liquid diet).
My liquid diet requirements are limited to:
Milk
Milk flavored with Carnation Instant Breakfast (regular is fine at this point, but after surgery I have to switch to Sugar Free)
Protein Shakes like Slim Fast, Boost, Ensure, etc.
Broth (Chicken, Beef, French Onion Soup mix minus the chunks...for this, I stocked up on beef and chicken ramen and am throwing out the noodles and just making the broth packet with water. Or, you can strain Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup, etc.)
Water or 0 calorie drinks like Crystal Light, Sugar Free Kool-Aid, Fruit 20, etc.
Sugar Free Jello
Sugar Free Popcicles (good if you need that chewing sensation)
I can't have any solids, fruit juices, carbonated beverages or take my vitamins/mineral supplements during the 10 day pre-liquid diet.
I think that about covers it. Good luck!
Michelle
Hi, Mel! We are surgery sisters! Yes, I am excited! Today is close to being over, just 13 more days to go...it's 5:33 pm, my time. This liquid protein thing is going to be really hard this weekend because my daughter and my grandchildren are coming to town. I usually have plenty of treats FOR THE GRANDCHILDREN! But, I'll be good! Thanks for the support! Jean
