I've had enough...

I've been sick since Thurs. night with fever/chills, nasal & chest congestion, dry cough, achy joints, headache, sore/tired eyes, & etc. I get in to see my doctor's assistant today @ 4:15pm. He tells me, "You've only been sick for 4 days. Drink lots of hot liquids and breath in the steam from the kettle. You could try some Robitussin or Vicks Salve. You might have allergies. If you're not better in a week, give us a call." What the hell?! Of course I already tried the things he mentioned before I made the damn doctor's appt. to begin with. For this college educated professional oppinion, I had to write a check for $20.00. I always leave their wanting to cry, because they never seem to give me any relief from whatever is bothering me. It took them over a month to send a letter of neccessity to my bariatric surgeon. Anyways, I stopped @ the store w/ my remaining $14.00 to buy Mucinex DM (9.50) & some juice (1.99), then came home and drug out the cool mist humidifier to use. So I'm still sick, more grouchy than ever and broke!! Doesn't that just make ya wanna scream!? Needless to say I am scheduled for surgery in 2 weeks!!

Don't ya love it! I finally told my former doctor if I couldn't see her and just her PA I was getting another doctor. I had a cough for 8 months before they realized I had double pneumonia! Dumb butts. Now I demand to see the actual *doctor* and not their helpers. Good luck getting over whatever it is you have! Never fails does it. * Cyndi *

April, so many times patients feel like they have no control over their health care, but indeed, the recent modality for health practitioners is that we are no longer to be called "patients", but that we are called clients. The term client reminds the practioners that we PAY to have their services rendered. Bottom line is that you do have the power. Even if you have State or Federal insurance, you have the ability to change practitioners and find someone else. All you have to do is call your insurance agency and let them know that you don't care for the doctor and you want somone else. The more people that take charge of their own physical health, the better the doctors will become. We all must demand good physical health care. After all, we are the ones that pay for it. Oh, and one additional thing...it is helpful, to most doctors, to present them with a written list of questions and points as to what we have done to help ourselves, before calling. I hope that you can find a new physician! Gesch
