I did that free sample thing and tried the "roadside lemonade". I have to say that I'm ready to order the larger size after trying it. I used a cup that has some frozen material embedded in the plastic so it was super cold when I drank it. I also used the 8 oz water portion versus the other option of 16 ounces. To me it tasted like sugar free lemon Jello...maybe a bit stronger lemon flavor. I could smell the familiar protein smell when I mixed it, but once it was mixed I think it actually tasted pretty good. When purchasing protein, the one message that seems to surface for many bariatric patients is what to do with all the protein supplies that they had left over. So, the best advice is to find a protein you like and then don't buy too far ahead. John

Good advice, but don't you want to keep drinking the protien drinks on into the future??? I actually like what I am using - I like the taste, and I always mix it with frozen fruit and make a great tasty 340 calorie meal Is that too much for the future??? I won't have surgery until 5/23 - I am still trying to figure the nutrition and eating thing out....I have lots of questions about it. Gesch

I accidently stumbled onto your board, i am 6 weeks post and in my opinion you don't always keep the protein source forever. You need to keep getting your protein but sometimes you just can't stomach a certian type anymore. Another problem post op is that if you have low protien source like Carnation Instant Breakfast Drink Light it is only 5 grams of protien per 8 oz (usually ends up being a little more) serving. It will take you forever to try and get 60 grams of protein in. In fact you couldnt do it with that product. So what happens is you try to find the most protein in the littlest package. As the protein content increases the flavor usually decreases so it is really important to find something that works for you. I have spent hundreds of dollars already and given away about $100 worth of protein that I just couldn't drink anymore. Some made me nausous or I got sick on them and couldn't take smell of them anymore. I agree that buying carefully is important unless of course you are pretty generally agreeable with most of them. I thought I would be fine now my nutritionist and I are going back and forth continually trying (my part) and suggesting (her part) new protien sources. Good Luck, madison

I got free samples of Cookies and Cream and Fuzzy Navel. That Fuzzy Navel was wonderful! I'm lucky that I have a friend who had her RNY last March. She's not into Fruit Punch so she gave me a huge Fruit Punch. I tried it and it was pretty good. She gave me a "goody bag" last week at dance. It had the Fruit Punch, a bunch of sf jello, some Crystal Light sticks, Splenda sticks and all kinds of things. She must know what she's doing because she's been holding at 201. She started last March at 365. She RAN into dance class last night yelling "I'm at 196! I'm at 196!" The kids all stood up and clapped for her. LOL I have some more sample packets ordered. It should keep me busy for a while. lol * Cyndi *

Hey John-- I have a whole container of this Nectar--Roadside Lemonade that I hated. I just got it about 2 weeks ago--and I only used 1 scoop out of it. I can't return it because it's been opened.....................it cost me $26.95 + shipping.........so if you're interested I'd be willing to ship it to you instead of just having it go to waste. Let me know!! Courtney
