Need answer's about protein help
Hello everyone, I am 4 months out as of saturday. I am finally recovering ok I guess. I have a real bad problem. My hair is falling out really bad. I was told it is because of lack of protein. I eat scrambled eggs and cheese and drink 2% milk and it is still falling out. HELP I WANT TO KEEP MY HAIR. It is long and it is getting really thin. What else can I do?
Are you drinking protein shakes? If not try adding that to your diet. There are a lot of good ones - and some that taste awful. I really like the Unjury chocolate. I make a smoothie using it and chocolate soy milk. It is about 28g of protein. I think we should be getting between 60-100g per day depending on who you talk to. Make sure it is a good quality whey protein. You might also want to check with your nutritionist to see if she has some suggestions of high protein foods.
Good luck,
Amari
Unfortunately, from everyone I've talked to and all I've read over the past year, you are pretty normal. Although hair loss does not happen to everyone after the RNY, it typically starts 3-4 months after surgery. If you are prone to it already, there is little to do to stop it. I've read about upping protein and using various products, but it offers little relief. Most of the time you have to let it run its course...it will grow back. But talking to your nutritionist is a good idea. Maybe she has some tips.
Sorry you are down. I'm not looking forward to this possibility either.
