Hi everyone, Only 24 days until my WLS. May 7th is my new birthday. I am so excited but I went through a crying spell last night and got scared thinking, "Why am I doing this to myself". Then I thought, I am doing it to make me a healthier and happier person. Anyone else nervous yet excited????

Hi, Esther Yes I am getting nervous. I spoke to my husband and my mother about if something happens don't leave me on life support unless there is a chance I will pull through just leave me long enough to donate my organs. My mom said I was being silly but when you have studied this type of surgery you know there is always that chance or any major surgery for that matter. I'm having the Laproscopic RNY on May 4th. Best wishes and hopefully well be doing well on the flip side. BTW this is my birthday present (May 8th).

Hi Terri, Thanks for making me feel like I am not the only emotional wreck. My husband is sick of seeing me cry. Mine is open surgery and it is also my birthday present (May 17). We are both Taurus' and Taurus' don't like change so I know this is as hard for you as it is for me but this is a good change because it will be a new start for us. I am happy for you. Keep me posted on how you are doing because you have yours 3 days before me. I will keep you in my prayers. Hugs, Esther

Hi, I will pray for you! I know it's an emotional roller coaster but I have to do something because I am now diabetic and have cholesterol problems. My regular doctor said this is the best decision for me. You are right about Taurus' we are also very stubborn. May I ask why you are having the open RNY? I hear alot of positive things about recovery with the laproscopic. My surgeon wanted me to do the Lap-band. I chose not to because I needed to learn how to eat again correctly and I didn't feel the Lap-Band would give me that since he said I still eat all the foods I eat now. Hugs, Terri

Hi Terri, I am having open surgery because eleven years ago I had the old stomach stapling (gastroplasty) and my surgeon is doing a revision from that surgery to both the ring and gastric bypass. This will give me consumption control but yet the gastric bypass will stop me from eating the sweets and fatty foods that I eat. You are right, the gastric bypass will teach us how to eat the good foods. My old surgery won't allow me to eat much good food so I have started eating a lot of junk that dissolves and goes down the little hole. Because of it, I am gaining my weight back and strokes run in my family so I am getting this revision to prevent future health issues. I wish I could have mine Laproscopicly. I hear the healing time is much faster. My daughter's friend had hers done that way and was up and around and back to normal right away. You will be so happy you did it. Love, Esther
