Topic: RE: Emergency surgery Wed., a complication from WLS I never heard before...
Beverlee -
Oh my God - I'm so sorry you had to go through this. This sounds awful. I've heard about bowel obstructions or twisted bowels being a potential complication. You poor thing.
Did you have any symptoms before the day you went to the hospital that you think in retrospect might have been related to it? I ask because my bowel movements have been odd, I've regained weight, and I'm feeling like a hypochondriac.
I'm glad that you let us know about this complication, and I am SO glad that they found your problem in time. I hope you heal quickly. Consider yourself hugged.
Take care,
Heather

Hi Jenia -
I'm sorry that your weight loss has been so slow. I've been avoiding the site because I had been regaining weight and I didn't want to face the success of others on the board. But then by not being on the board, it made it easier to put the weight loss/surgery on the back burner. So, I'm glad that you are back to the board. I have just returned as well.
I think you are doing great, and it may just take longer to lose what you want to. Hang in there.
Take care,
Heather
Topic: RE: Weekly Weigh In
Hi all -
I've been having a rough summer with medication issues, which has made it impossible to exercise, difficult to work, and difficult to say no to bad foods (disinhibition). In April I weighed 140ibs and had been at that weight for about 2 months (it was my goal weight).
But now:
Today's weigh in: 165
I've been postponing my 1 year surgeons visit because I'm ashamed that I have already regained. Its been a very difficult summer. My smaller clothes no longer fit, so I've had to go through my Goodwill pile to find clothes that fit. I'm really struggling and feeling awful.
Thanks for letting me vent
Heather

Topic: Emergency surgery Wed., a complication from WLS I never heard before...
So last Wed. I had an awful stomach ache that started radiating to my back. With in 2 hours I knew something was wrong. I left work for the hour long drive home and my husband took me to the ER. Blood work, x-rays, ultra-sound and cat scan later I was headed to surgery to fix a twisted, flopped on it's self small intestine. The doctor said it was blue and dying but not dead so nothing had to be removed. This had to be done open because he needed to be able to see everything clearly and go through my bowels inch by inch. My mom knows two people who died from this due to waiting too long before going in to surgery for repairs. I thought it was going to be an ulcer or bad gallbladder which are more common complications. I guess this is just an FYI because I never knew about this before it happened to me. I am going to post on the main board for people to list their complication and how it was resolved. I think a list of things to be aware of would be great. I am home and healing thanks to great doctors. Peace out!
Topic: RE: Weight!
Ruth,
DON'T count it. I secretly counted it in my head (I never told anyone that I was doing it), but was soooo disappointed after the plastic surgery. The first thing I asked the Doc after surgery was how many pounds of skin he took off, he said 10. I was like rock on, when I get home I am going to weigh in the low 120's. I get home and weigh, and damn-it I weigh the exact same as I did as when I went in for surgery. I had forgotten about swelling and all, but man was I still disappointed.
So long story short, it has been almost 6 weeks since the PS and I am still not to the low 120's. ;-(
Topic: RE: A good reminder
Thanks Carla
I found it helpful, I was looking up stuff for my dad who is not overweight at all, but is diabetic. He does not understand how carbs can effect his blood sugar, so I sent him a copy of the article. I thought it was a good reminder for us too... (although you are the tiny one and don't have to watch quite as much as myself )...LOL
