okay so sometimes I have some sugar on my cream of wheat, and some times I have some splenda on my cream of wheat, and some time I have some margarine on my cream of wheat, and some times I have milk on my cream of wheat, and some times I just want to scream. I can not seem to find a 'recipe' for my cream of wheat that I can get it down without dumping. even now, almost 3 hours later, I am dumping, have been for about 20 minutes, my heart is racing, my fingers are shaking, and it just doesnt seem fair. I can devour chocolate, chocolate cake, candy mints, but something in my cream of wheat is just wigging me out. at first I thought it was the coffee that I was drinking in the morning, but no coffee for a week to test the problem, it has to be the cream of wheat, now I start making it with water, and just add a little milk at the end to keep it soupy consistency. I am just mad, cream of wheat should be good for me. not a dumping trigger. Kat (texas) http://www.wretchedheathen.com

Don't you hate it how that happens...I only wish I would dump on the bad stuff and not the good stuff...Darn it!

Hi. It is probably just the carbs from the cream of wheat. I also dump on it with nothing added to it. I also dump on oatmeal. I don't even want to think of eating a cold cereal for this reason. I used to eat a lot of cereal, but I may of had one bowl of cold cereal since surgery. I won't even touch milk now. It's never made me sick or anything, but I'm afraid to drink it. I used to drink a lot of milk. It just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Good luck. Paula

after typing that i went and had a string cheese, just an ounce and within a few minutes i was fine, did some research: Hypoglycemia due to dumping syndrome and other post-surgical conditions is best dealt with by altering diet. Including fat and protein with carbohydrates may slow digestion and reduce early insulin secretion. Some forms of this respond to treatment with a glucosidase inhibitor, which slows starch digestion. so instead of JUST cream of wheat, I need cream of wheat with an egg or cheese chaser? oh I bet that is why lots of peps in the south have cheese on their grits. heehee to prevent the hypoglycemia. okay.. so 1/2 the cereal portion and 1/2 an egg portion or 1/2 a cheese portion. what a PITA!

Yes, frustrating is the word. I can't eat a bowl of cold cereal with milk, no matter how healthy a one it is! But put a bar of chocolate or bag of candy or cake or carbs etc etc in front of me and I can eat and not dump til the cows come home. Sigh ~ strange , but there it is

I did an experiment and if i 1/2 the wheat and add in 1/2 a protein, I do very well. last night it was scrambled egg and smoked salmon with miracle whip on waasa crisp bread. very pretty and very yummy got on the scales yesterday, up to 152, got on today, down to 148.5, freaking thing must be broken. ;)

Glad I don't like Cream of Wheat because I seem to dump fairly easy.
