Protein Balls

I finally got around to making some -I've been putting it of as I wasn't sure if the balance between calories and protein was justifiable and thought I might scoff the lot in one sitting I did mine flat like flap jacks. The counts on mine came in at: Calories: 110 Protein: 5 For that many calories it doesn't seem very much protein - I guess I could add more protein shake powder, but that would up the calories too My protein powder is 119 cals per scoop (1 per shake). Plus, yes, I've had 3 so far today...I've put them away so they don't keep calling me - they are very yummy. What do you guys think? How can I get the protein up without increasing the calories?

For me the protein balls would be dangerous. I would end up eating them all in one day, so they aren't an option. I decided that I would go for cottage cheese because of it's high protein content and it's low 'calling my name' appeal. In each cup of cottage cheese is 15 g of protein. If I have two of these a day that is half my protein requirement. I had some protein bars and found that it was a slippery slope for me into snacking on them for pleasure rather than seeing them as fuel. I think that maybe the key for me is to continue thinking of food as fuel rather than something to enjoy. sad but true. I am sure that the boys in my house will be happy about that one

WOW, cottage cheese sounds like a much better option. I saw on your daily what did you eat posts that you have cottage cheese so have gone out and bought myself some last night. I agree on the snacking thing - I've already dipped into the balls again (and again if I'm honest!) so I'll be glad when they've gone - to me it is just like eating candy - and as you say - it's a slippery slope (for me). While I still want to enjoy food - for me, it's a case of finding things that I enjoy without them 'calling my name' and becoming compulsive. The peanut butter chocolate combination are too irrisistable for me, so I think I will stick to cottage cheese in future

there is a recipe for cottage cheese pancakes that looks like a good snack, it's in the recipe section, I'll see if i can locate it. ANDI ps. for me, protein balls are not a great bang for my buck as i'd like to eat them all then i have to throw them out so they stop calling my name!

I use isopure rich chocolate powder in mine.. it works out to 11 grams of protein and 110 in calories.. well worth the eating. I dont know what protein you use but it should be higher than that to justfy eating them.. They could be very addicting as well.. i actually count out the two i get and dont touch the rest of them... its an active effort but I manage to stay away from them each day except the ones I have alloted myself.

Question about beef jerky? Can you munch on this all day???? OKay what I mean is that somedays I want to graze and have little time to sit down and eat a meal .....is jerky a good idea for this? Ive been snacking on All Bran crackers because they have tons of fiber 5 grams per serving with 3 proteins, 3 sugars and 19 carbs for 18 crackers - which I thought was good. Whatcha think?

Yes! munch away!...LOL leave the crackers alone! 19 carbs ! trade your carbs for protein chips, which seem to be better for you, or limit your crackers to only a few x's per week at most.(if you are still trying to loose).. but beef jerky is full of protein... I have to munch, so I eat lots of it with cheese and olives or artichokes

The only thing with beef jerky is it is really high in sodium. If you get the natural kind or if you make it yourself you can change that problem. Salt makes me bloat so I avoid it.
