What are the top 5 rules that you follow? I know there is a long list of all the rules of the pouch, that we should all be following, but I have prioritised my ones that I keep (or know that I am not keeping if you get what I mean. Just wondered what your top ones were - here are mine: 1. Protein, protein protein - no carbs if possible 2. Drink 64oz water per day 3. No drinking while eating or for 30 minutes after eating 4. No candy/sugar 5. No snacking, unless it has been planned or is a protein

Oh I do so hate rules...what's that old saying....ummm something about rules are made to be....what was that again...oh yeah...broken...hehehe No seriously...I have mainly stuck to: 1. High protein, low carbs, low sugar 2. NO drinking 30 minutes before or after eating. 3. NO soda's ( I gave them up 2 months prior to surgery and have never looked back...well I did have a headache for the first 2 weeks then It was smooth sailing..I haven't even wanted a sip!!! Major triumph for me!! as I drank anywhere from 6-10 regular cokes a day!! 4. Water, Water, Water (with plenty of crystal lites I haven't been able to drink just plain water since my surgery...It tastes funny 5. ummm can't think of anymore...I was very good at exercising 3-4 times a wee****il I found my hernia and as I am trying to delay that surgery I am not straining or lifting anything until at least 3 months after I get it fixed with possible tt. But did enjoy my workouts so I will rejoin the gym as soon as possible. I will honestly say that I have added bread's(although it is wheat) back to my diet(per my Dr ok after 75 % loss of excess weight lost)...and do occasionally have things I use to have...I feel it is important not to deny myself a bite of something I want as denying myself will only increase my want for it...But have recognized some bad patterns in myself ...Darn those whole wheat ritz crackers. But I give myself kuddos for recognizing them and trying to stop those bad habits from easing back into my life.

I know I'm only supposed to have 5 but I'd like to add one that I don't always do, but always need to!!! So coemmback to it again and again... 6. Use a small tea plate and cup size bowl (to restrict portion size) PS...I'd like to add that these are my golden rules - not ones I neccessarily keep to, but ones I hold in my head and come back to when I want/need to 'eat right'. I'm not good at keeping to 'rules' so give my self lots of grace with each of these

Ruth, You can list as many as you want. Hey the small tea plate and cup size bowl is a great idea!! I never thought of that!! I have been very good to stick to the 30/30 rule and the no sodas. But I don't always get my 64 oz water in every day but besides a cup of coffee each morning it is all I drink!I do occasionlly have a few bites of sweets for foods not on my surgeons list but hey, We are only human and at least we have the tool and the rules to come back to when we need to "eat right".. Missy PS. You and Carla always post such thought provoking messages!!! Thanks!

Ohhhh...I sometimes try the water logging before I eat - to fill up in an effort to eat less. It does work when I remember to do it.

Hi Ruth I use a small plate as well, even when I go out to eat, I will separate my food on a bread dish and have the rest boxed, or pass it to my husband..LOL but I do drink with meals.. I always have (more like sip)... I also snack.(not every day).. but keep it to protein or salad / cheese I have to work at staying away from starches... I love them. I think the fear of gaining is what helps me just stay no....
