SMOKING?

My husband and I both smoked and we quit at least 4 years ago.... He has been out for 3 years and 8 months. Well he was having some pain around his pouch area and they did a scope on him on Friday.... Well..he started smoking again about 6 months or so ago. So they found a big old ulcer!! I asked what caused it and they said from him smoking! I didn't figure being this far out ,that would happen!!! They also told us that since we both had the surgery,that we shouldn't even be in a room with smokers!! Now that sounds weird,are we supposed to live in a bubble or something!!?? Just wondered if anyone else was told this???

i was told it causes ulcer too im a year out and smoke my dr is on me about it to
