Calories & 1 year check up
Hello everyone, I haven't updated my profile or been on here in months, but I lurk from time to time and would like to let you know that I love reading all your posts!
With that said, I have two questions.
1. Is anyone counting calories and if you are, how much should we have at about 1 year out?
2. I'm petrified of going to my doctor for my 1 year check up on Thursday because although I think I've done pretty well, losing 102 lbs so far, I am afraid for some reason they are going to tell me I'm a failure. Is this normal? Anyone go through this?
Thank you so much!
Hugs, Heather
Hi Heather!
You are NOT a failure! You are a tremendous success! Losing 102 pounds is something to be very proud of! Don't you dare let your inner voice tell you any different. You are making wonderful progress!!!
I do count my calories and I get anywhere between 1200-1600 calories a day. I exercise pretty hard 5 days a week. I know a lot of people eat WAY less than I do but I seem to be able to eat more than them! Plus, I think since I exercise so much, my body needs more fuel. Sometimes I'm worried that I'm eating so much more than everyone else but I try to get a well balanced diet in. I eat carbs and am not afraid of them! I just try to balance everything out!
I think you've done a great job and I'm sure your doctor will be very proud of you at your check up!
Deanna
Deanna you have made me so happy I could literally cry!!! I exercise 3-4 times a week but I'm trying to up it to 5-6 times a week also "pretty hard" to get more toned. I really thought people were working out like crazy and eating 700 calories a day! Thank you for this well needed reality check. It feels good to be back on OH!!!
Heather
Hi Heather!
There is no way I could survive on 700 calories a day and exercise! I would pass out! My dietician told me that I could eat up to 1900 calories a day with no exercise just to maintain my weight. So I figure I can eat 1600 calories a day and exercise and still lose weight! Woo hoo, cuz I like to eat!
I try not to consider any food off limits ... I don't really dump on anything, which is good and bad! But I want to live a normal life, eating normal foods ... just in moderation! I know everyone has different requirements but my attitude is to stick to proteins first but don't beat myself up if I eat carbs. I just take it day by day ... I still really enjoy eating!
Deanna
You sound so much like me, Deanna. I'm eating upwards towards 1400-1800 calories a day and not afraid of carbs anymore myself. I've been eating them again for sometime actually. Like you, I work out very hardcore (and have since right out of surgery) for 3-4 hours a night 6 days a week w hich is why I think I'm fortunate to keep this weight off. I don't want to find out what would happen if I stopped working out!! LOL
I try and eat about 1000 to 1300 calories a day. I work out like Deanna so I need more calories. It's hard to get them all in and I still dont do a lot of carbs. I am trying to move more to a normal diet now that I have reach my goal weight. I would like to maybe loose a few more pounds but I think I am learning to be comfortable with the 135 that I weight now. Time will tell.. if I loose it I will loose it.. if I dont I will be happy reaching the goal I set for myself a year ago.
Good luck
you my dear are a victim of your own STINKIN' THINKIN' you are poisoning yourself with negative talk in your own head, cut that out right now! No doctor will ever tell you that you are a failure because it'll reflect badly on them. Try to come on here more often, we're a great source of support! Happy One Year Surgiversary and i'm proud of all you've accomplished thus far. ANDI
