Meeting with the nut
I had a good meeting with my nut today. She says I am doing really good. she has researched more about wls and felt she could talk to me more about it this time. She says I am perfect but I could loose up to 15 more pounds to have wiggle room. That idealy she would like to see me between 125 and 135. She wants me to continue what I am doing than she gave me a maintence diet to follow. Not sure if i could ever eat all the food she has on this list, but I dont have to worry about it yet.
One thing she said is i need to increase my carbs and decrease my protein. That goes against what we were told. She says I would have more energy if I did that and might feel a little better. I do still get tired a bit which I am sure it's because of the low carbs I eat.. at least thats what she said and it makes sense. I dont know if we can change our protein like that though. I always thought we were suppose to continue to always eat protein first, veggies, fruit than carbs. I know a few of you do that by what i see on the on track thing. I just havent done it. Maybe I should give it a try and see if i get more energy in my step.
Deanna how tall are you.. can I ask that.. She wants me to do more of a diet like you have i think. I could go up a few calories now she says with the exercise I do cause i barely crack the 900 calorie mark each day. You eat about 1300 right.. she was saying maybe 1100/1200 a day... She eventually wants me at 1600 to 1800 calories a day.. yikes that sounds like a lot.
Good for you Carla...see you have been doing great all along. The carb thing makes sense to me...or maybe it's just me making excuses to eat more carbs...ha.ha.
So, is the NUT part of the continued care from your surgeon? I have never been given the opportunity to have a NUT involved in my care. I want one! I want some advise re: maintence...what plan I should follow...etc?
Hi Carla!
It sounds like your appointment went very well!
My Nut. works only with weight loss surgery patients so I trust her completely. She ran a body composition analysis on me to get my body fat percentage and my resting metabolic rate. That showed that I need 1900 calories a day without any exercise just to maintain my weight. So, she told me to eat anywhere from 1300-1800 calories, depending on how active I am. Since I go to the gym 5 days a week and burn a lot of calories, she said I need more fuel to burn and that definately includes carbohydrates. Your body needs them to allow your brain to function normally. And your body really uses them as fuel while you're exercising. Last night I went to my Spin class and I was having the hardest time; I felt like I couldn't even make my legs move through the second part of the class. It wasn't until later that it dawned on me that I didn't hardly eat any carbs with dinner, it was mostly just ground turkey. So it made me wonder if that was why I wasn't able to keep up during class.
My fitness coach told me to always eat a spoonful of peanut butter before Spin class but I forgot to do that last night too. She said that peanut butter is a good combination of protein, fat, and carbs to help sustain your body through an hour long class, otherwise in people like us who don't eat very much, we burn out quickly.
I just try and take bits of information from everyone and apply it to me. My Nut. insists on keeping carbs in your diet and told me to aim for 140 grams of carbs a day. I don't think I ever reach that because I still eat protein first and then follow with veggies/fruits/carbs. But I usually get in around 100-120 a day. I know that everyone has different beliefs but I trust my Nut. and I feel good about the diet she has me on!

my trainer has a thing you hold to check your body fat.. is that the same thing. what is this analaysis. I want to get one. I got that heart monitor thing we were talking about the other day. It's interesting. I found several kinds at big 5 . they range from 35 dollars to 345 dollars. I got the one with the strap around the chest for about 75. a polar f6. it works pretty good.
Oooooh, I want one of those watch things! How cool!!!
The test they ran on me is called a Body Composition Analysis. They hook some electrodes to your feet and some to your hand. Then they input your height and weight into this machine and it sends electrical currents through your body to measure the resistance of water, muscle, and fat. It comes back with results telling you how many pounds of fat you have, how many pounds of muscle, etc. Then it gives you a resting metabolic rate based on those results. It's really quite cool! That way they can keep track of how much lean muscle you have, because you want more of it so that your metabolism is working more efficiently. I just love seeing my results!

YAY.....Carla's perfect. Do ya hear that??? I'm really pleased for you Carla. It always helps to hear it from a professional. The way your nut put it makes sense to me - giving you that 15 pound bounce back cushion.
It might feel strange at first to adjust how you've been eating for the last 10 months, but I'm sure you'll soon get used to it. Look at it as a step towards maintenance, so you're not having to jump straight into maintenance like jumping in the deep end all at once. Put your toes in first
