Im confused!
Can anyone tell me what is the deal with drinking water with your meals? I dont do it because its a no-no, but a I was havinga bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup yesterday I was thinking, "how is this any different than water with solid food?" And is that bad for me? After all, I was chewing my noodles and chicken and veggies but it was mushy because of the broth.....totally confused!!!!!

There are several reasons for not drinking and eating at the same time.
1. it pushes the food through faster so it doesnt have time to give you all the nurishment from what you ate.
2. you get hungry sooner cause your food goes through faster.
3. It can make you sick (at least some it does) and you can get like a dumping thing.
4. the fluid feels you up and you cant eat as much.
I can eat a lot more soup than other things because of this. it goes through a little faster so you can eat more than the normal amount. I know when I eat out and i have soup with my meals I can eat more than usual of the other foods cause the soup will push my other food down faster, hence more room to eat more.
thats why we shouldnt eat and drink at the same time. I try hard to follow that rule myself.
I hate this rule! I break it occassionally. I don't think there is any difference when we eat soup. I know it does not make sense.
The standard rule is that if we drink with meals or soon after them we will push the food we are eating or eaten through the stoma too quickly and therefore may stretch it. We will also get hungrier quicker. Makes sense I guess. I find it harder to not drink for 1 hour after than to drink during.
Another rule I just came across is to "water load" prior to a meal. Meaning drink all day like we are suppose to but 1 hour before a meal drink as much as you can. This is to prevent us from eating too much during the meal. This rule I found seems to be for people 1 yearish out when the hunger returns in full force.
If I drink while I'm eating I dump! So I know the consequences of my actions. I think this happens because it pushes the undigested food into the intestine and it digests there instead - not sure of the accurate medical info though.
I think the idea of water logging sounds good. I think I'm going to give that a try to try and cut down on my portion size.
The challenge is that it makes the food soggy and into a mush like consistency and it gets processed too quickly and breaks down in the stomach acid too quickly and thereby you are hungry faster......this i remember from my days in culinary school. I was taught alot more about digestion then most culinary folks get for some odd reason. When we are in a restaurant i'll order a water with lemon if the food is too dry i'll either ask them to remake it or i'll neep to gently sip some water if that's to go down! Hugs, ANDI
