Soya

Does anyone cook using soya? I bought some soya made to be used like ground meat and made a spaghetti sauce last night. It has low calories and is 50% protein. Trouble is unless you add loads of stuff to it it tastes like cardboard!! Anyone else use it and have any recipes I can use?

I use soy crumbles in place of some meat in recipes. I use about a 50/50 ratio or my family can tell and they get crabby! I add alot of "stuff" to it so it's not so bad. I use it for sloppy nachos or pasta sauce....its' not real meat you've got to help it! Hugs, ANDI

Thanks Andi good idea mixing it with the real stuff, I'll do that next time. How does it rate calorie and protein wise to real meat do you know?

Great question, it's less grams of protein BUT it's a plant protein which makes it more easily digestible and healthier (heart wise) for us. So the experts say that we should have a soy meal at least 2-3 times per week.

Really.. I didnt know that.. I have never tried soy. I do eat meat 2 times a day but its the real stuff. I like chicken a lot but have been craving cow meat a lot lately so I have been eating that more than usual. I am not to imaginative with my menu although I do prep all my food with marinades etc and put them in small meal size baggies for myself. Now my family... I fix them full meals.. I just vary mine to maximize the protein. Maybe I will try it..
